Position:     Controller

Location:       New York, NY

Salary:           200k – 250k

 

NYC based Apparel Wholesaler seeks a Controller to lead their Team!

 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all daily accounting functions including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable , General Ledger, Bank reconciliations , Journal entries . Cash management
  • Maintain accurate and timely financial records
  • Monitor daily cash flow and liquidity needs
  • Ensure all transactions are properly recorded in Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains)
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes
  • Prepare and review: Profit & Loss Statements, Balance Sheets, Cash Flow Reports. Sales and margin reporting
  • Produce timely internal financial reports for ownership/management
  • Analyze variances and provide insights into business performance
  • Monitor inventory accounting, costing, and reconciliations
  • Work closely with operations, sales, and production teams to ensure accurate tracking of: Purchase orders, Receipts, Inventory adjustments, Sales orders, Customer deductions / chargebacks
  • Assist with landed cost tracking, freight, duties, and import-related accounting
  • Support margin analysis by style, customer, and category when needed
  • Review and reconcile data flow between AMT, inventory records, order management, and accounting systems
  • Maintain internal controls and accounting procedures
  • Coordinate with outside CPA for year-end review, tax filings, and audits
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements
  • Manage sales tax filings or coordinate with external providers
  • Oversee 1099 preparation and related reporting
  • Support ownership with budgeting, forecasting, and cash planning
  • Help improve accounting processes and reporting efficiency
  • Serve as a key financial partner to management on operational and strategic decisions

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years of accounting/finance experience, preferably in a Controller or Assistant Controller role
  • Prior experience in apparel, garment, wholesale, consumer products, or inventory-based businesses strongly preferred
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) required
  • Proficiency in Excel and financial reporting
