Chipton-Ross is seeking a System Administrator for a contract opportunity in Waco, TX.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE)
- Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of system administration experience in Linux and/or Windows environments.
- Strong knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS, Rocky Linux, Windows 10, and Windows 11.
- Experience supporting or administering Proxmox virtualization environments.
- Experience supporting Atlassian Jira, Bitbucket, and Jenkins in a technical or engineering environment.
- Experience with scripting and automation using Bash, PowerShell, Python, or similar tools.
- Familiarity with centralized authentication such as LDAP, Active Directory integration, or SSO.
- Experience with patch management, endpoint hardening, and vulnerability remediation.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across OS, hardware, networking, and applications.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
The Linux and Windows Workstation System Administrator is responsible for deploying, securing, maintaining, and supporting desktop and laptop systems used by engineering, development, and technical staff. This role manages workstation images, user access, patching, software distribution, endpoint security, virtualization support, and troubleshooting across Linux and Windows workstation environments, including Red Hat, CentOS, Rocky Linux, Proxmox, Windows 10, and Windows 11. The role also supports engineering toolchains and collaboration platforms, including Atlassian Jira, Bitbucket, and Jenkins.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and support Linux and Windows workstations, including provisioning, configuration, patching, and lifecycle management.
- Maintain standardized workstation builds and configuration baselines across Red Hat, CentOS, Rocky Linux, Windows 10, and Windows 11 platforms.
- Support and administer Proxmox environments used for workstation virtualization, testing, or infrastructure support.
- Provide administration and user support for Atlassian Jira, Bitbucket, and Jenkins in coordination with engineering and DevOps teams.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, authentication, and access controls.
- Troubleshoot hardware, OS, application, network, and performance issues.
- Support endpoint security tools, encryption, antivirus, logging, and compliance requirements.
- Automate routine administration tasks using Bash, PowerShell, Python, or configuration management tools.
- Manage software packaging, deployment, updates, and developer tool installation.
- Document workstation standards, procedures, and support processes.
- Partner with engineering, cybersecurity, help desk, and DevOps teams to resolve incidents and improve reliability.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE)
- Experience supporting engineering or developer workstation environments.
- Familiarity with Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Microsoft Intune, Group Policy, or other configuration management tools.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, source control administration, and issue tracking workflows.
- Experience with virtualization, containers, or cloud-based infrastructure.
- Relevant certifications such as RHCSA, RHCE, Linux+, Microsoft, Atlassian, Jenkins, or equivalent.
REQUIRED EDUCATION
- Accredited Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
WORK HOURS
- Full-Time- Monday-Friday 08:00am-05:00pm
