What is a project scheduler?

A project scheduler’s responsibilities include assisting a team of workers in planning and executing tasks. You work with project goals, timelines, and other relevant details, to oversee the central system that a team consults for information. You are responsible for coordinating tasks and ensuring that team members complete them on time. Following up is important, and communication skills are helpful for the job. Regular meetings and progress reviews are common, allowing the scheduler to identify potential delays and propose adjustments to keep the project on track. This role often involves gathering input from various team members, integrating their feedback into the master schedule, and communicating any changes or risks. Effective collaboration and clear communication are key to ensuring that everyone is aligned and that project goals are achieved on time.

Join Amrize as a Project Scheduler and help construct what's next. If you're ready to put your skills to work on projects that matter - and build a career with a company that's building North America - we want to hear from you!

ABOUT THE ROLE
Amrize Western Canada seeks a highly skilled and motivated Project Scheduler to support our growing Construction Group. This role will be based in Calgary and will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and overseeing project schedules across multiple construction projects within the region. Reporting directly to the Director of Construction, the Project Scheduler will work closely with Project Managers (PMs), General Managers (GMs), clients, subcontractors and other stakeholders to ensure the timely delivery of construction projects, budget adherence, and effective resource utilization.

WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Collaborate with PMs and estimating teams during the pre-construction phase to develop accurate and realistic project schedules.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed, comprehensive project schedules using industry-standard scheduling software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project), including work breakdown structures (WBS), key milestones, dependencies, and critical path analysis.
  • Regularly update project schedules to reflect actual progress, incorporating changes due to scope adjustments, delays, or unforeseen challenges.
  • Monitor project schedules to ensure that deadlines are met and that projects remain on track, proactively identifying and addressing any potential delays or resource conflicts.
  • Provide ongoing scheduling support to PMs throughout the lifecycle of each project, from estimating and pursuit through project completion.
  • Analyze the impact of scope changes on project schedules and assist PMs in integrating these changes into the overall project plan.
  • Ensure that schedule-related data is provided to substantiate claims and support negotiation processes with clients, contractors, and vendors.
  • Identify resource constraints and collaborate with PMs to resolve conflicts, ensuring optimal allocation of labour, equipment, and materials across multiple projects.
  • Ensure that resource utilization is aligned with project timelines and that any adjustments to resource plans are communicated and tracked effectively.
  • Work closely with procurement and operations teams to ensure materials and equipment are available as scheduled.
  • Provide regular reports to the Director of Construction, outlining the status of all ongoing projects, including key milestones, schedule variances, and potential risks.
  • Communicate any critical issues or delays to PMs and senior management, providing recommendations for corrective actions as needed. Assist in preparing performance reviews, project closeout reports, and lessons learned documentation to improve future scheduling processes.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving, and adhering to health, safety, and environmental policies in all work environments and areas.

  • Strong understanding of construction scheduling practices, project controls, and resource management.
  • Assist PMs in managing project timelines, allocating resources, and resolving scheduling conflicts to keep projects on track.
  • Collaborate closely with GMs to provide high-level updates on project progress, including milestone achievements, delays, and resource allocation adjustments.
  • Ensure effective communication between regional teams, PMs, and senior management to address schedule-related issues promptly and efficiently.
  • Support PMs and teams in tracking, developing, and costing extra work change orders and claims, ensuring that all schedule impacts are accurately reflected.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to identify potential risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.
