Landscape Assistant Design & Project Management


HML Group, a leader in Albertas landscape design and construction market, is currently looking for a motivated Design Assistant to help support our landscape design team this spring. This important full-time role will contribute and participate in the design and construction process from start to finish, ensuring optimal client satisfaction. This role will be supported by the design and sales team with consistent mentorship and training regarding all aspects of landscape design and construction.

Designer Assistant responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Participate in the landscape design process by conducting site analysis. This includes taking site measurements, surveying and taking elevation shots.
  • Create design base plans using Dynascape and AutoCAD.
  • Assist with design presentations, which includes perspective drawings, rendering designs, create presentation packages with materials and examples.
  • Support in the estimating process by contacting suppliers and obtaining product prices.
  • Participate in the commercial bid process by calculating product quantities and material takeoffs.
  • Assist in the project management process by placing Alberta First Calls, applying for necessary permits like OSCAM, or Deck permits.
  • Assist in the construction process by ordering necessary materials, pulling plant material to be installed, and placing plants on site according to the design for the crews to plant.
  • Create maintenance and warranty packages to provide to the client.

Qualifications of the successful candidate will include:

  • Education minimum one year from Horticulture School.
  • Class 5 Drivers license and own personal vehicle.
  • Dynascape and/ or AutoCAD Proficient
  • Sketch up experience.
  • Ability to prioritize and effectively manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
  • 2+ years landscaping experience
  • Plant and material knowledge and understanding.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Enthusiastic and willing to learn new things.
  • Great attention to detail.
  • Willingness and ability to move design materials as requested.
  • Motivated and passionate to participate in trade shows and event marketing.
  • Sales experience considered an asset.
