Salary:

Vertex is offering summer field employment opportunities within our Tank Cleaning Division, ideal for apprentice Pipefitters, Welders, Boilermakers and Mechanical Trades looking to gain real-world industrial experience. The role provides valuable hands on exposure to confined space entry, industrial cleaning operations and safety-critical work environments - experience that directly supports long-term careers in the trades. Successful candidates will work alongside experienced teams on active projects and gain practical skills that strengthen apprenticeship and field resumes.


This is temporary, project-based work with projects anticipated to run throughout the summer season.

Previous confined space experience is considered an asset but not mandatory - safety training and orientation will be provided.


Duties and Responsibilities


  • Work in confined spaces for shifts of up to 2 hours
  • Participate in the installation and removal of energy isolation devices, blanks, blinds, etc.
  • Rig in / rig out ventilation, wash and vacuum equipment
  • Accurately report conditions within confined spaces
  • Assist confined space entry personnel in donning and doffing required PPE when entering and exiting confined space when not in confined space
  • Perform assigned emergency response roles including confined space rescue
  • Actively participate in safety meetings, tool box meetings, permit and hazard assessment reviews
  • Prepare hazard assessments as appropriate
  • Maintain composure during high-stress and multi-tasking challenges
  • Support cleaning of respiratory protective equipment
  • Complete required inspection records for PPE and equipment
  • Complete required inventory of trailers daily and at end of the project
  • Support outside of space operations, maintaining support equipment in berm/work area as directed


Candidate Qualifications


  • Interest in gaining industrial field experience
  • Comfortable working in physically demanding environments
  • Physically able to lift and carry up to 45 kg
  • Ability to stand, crouch, kneel and work for extended periods
  • Able to follow direction and work as part of a team
  • Willing and able to work local Edmonton and surrounding area projects
  • Ability to provide own transportation to site
  • Willingness to stay in local accommodations when required (if applicable)
  • Breathing Air/Mask experience is required


Safety & Training Requirements

  • Clean Drug & Alcohol Testing (Provided by Vertex)
  • Clean Shaven Fit Testing (Provided by Vertex)
  • Pre-Access Orientation (Provided by Vertex)

  • Energy Safety Canada Confined Space Entry and Monitor
  • CSO (Common Safety Orientation)
  • CSTS 2020
