Job Description
What is the scope of this person's responsibilities?
To assist the New Product Development (NPD) team in their daily work and to complete special assignments. The Program Management (PM) function has responsibility for new product development, new customer acquisition, fiscal/contractual requirements flow-down and management, IPT team leadership, and providing commercial oversight and guidance to all internal functions. Must work well in a team environment. This role is a preparatory role for company future hires in Program Management for a competitive advantage. This position reports to the Head of Commercial Strategy with dotted-line supervision by one or more Program Managers.
  1. What is the MISSION for this person?

This person is to help the NPD team accomplish projects focused on developing new products, technically supporting existing products, and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the team and the company as a whole.
  1. What are the most important objectives you need this person to achieve? (AT LEAST FIVE).

To support the NPD team in the following areas:
    1. Commercial support of development programs (Drive and close program/project action items)
    2. Program management (contributions towards program execution)
    3. Production support (expediting production activities, logistics, issue resolution)
    4. Customer support (prepping program material for customer review)
    5. Process improvement, automation, and standardization (identify opportunities, capture "quick wins")
    6. Data reduction and analysis (trend analysis, opportunity identification, data-driven story telling)

Working with all groups within the company to complete tasks as required. Groups include, but are not limited to: Program Management, Design Engineering, Drafting, Test Lab, Operations, Quality Engineering, Purchasing, Contracts, and Shipping/Receiving.
Qualifications
Desired background (education, years and type of experience, skills and knowledge, etc.):
    1. A student working toward, or recently graduated with, a BS/MS/PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Physics. Other technical degrees may be considered.
    2. Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
    3. Can demonstrate ability to face unfamiliar problems by application of first principles of engineering and physics.
    4. Can demonstrate leadership and technical competence, backed by examples of actual execution.
    5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    6. Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to break down complex projects into actionable and measurable tasks.
    7. Excellent organizational skills.

At any given time, approximately 25% of the Engineering and Programs department employees were at one time interns with the company. Historically, approximately 50% of interns have been offered positions based on intern performance and job availability.
  1. What are the company expectations of an intern?
    1. Works hourly. Must work 12-29 hours per week. Schedule is flexible to account for coursework; to be agreed upon with direct supervisor.
    2. Must work physically on site, typically in a cubicle environment.
    3. In addition to various daily duties will perform at least one primary project during the term of employment, which will be reported on and presented in a team review environment.
