THE SALVATION ARMY JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Summary:
Plans, develops, schedules, coordinates, facilitates and monitors a variety of educational, recreational, and spiritual development activities, events, and trips for the children, young adults and seniors; builds and maintains a positive relationship with the children, youth, parents and seniors; builds relationships with other agencies, as well as, seeks to find those in the community that could also provide leadership to Salvation Army programs; prepares and maintains program records; assist in maintaining facilities, equipment, and grounds. Finds, develops, writes, submits, and administrates local foundation, corporate, state, and federal grants; administers existing grants and ensures compliance with contract restrictions; serves as liaison to funding sources.
Essential Functions:

Supervisory Responsibilities (15%)
Plans, schedules, assigns, and supervises the work of program staff and volunteers; trains and instructs employees in the proper methods and procedures; monitors work in progress and upon completion to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established policies and procedures.
Opens and closes the Center in compliance with established operating hours; ensures the center is properly secured during non-operating hours; closes and locks windows and doors and turns off lights before leaving the Center and straightens the areas before leaving each day.
Provides leadership and constant care for the needs of the children in an efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure, and healthy manner; exhibits control of the children and when needed displays proper discipline techniques.
Ensures staff has cleaned the kitchen, classrooms, tables, floors, etc. in accordance with established sanitary standards; assists in maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the Center facilities and grounds.
Ensures social service staff comply with deadlines and other contract restrictions for grant funding.
Program Implementation Responsibilities (20%)
Ensures that teachers have lesson plans completed in a timely manner; assists teachers as they administer activities for school age children; ensures that activities are age appropriate, stimulating, fun and safe for the children; locates supplies for teachers to decorate rooms with up-to-date themes and seasons; prepares and maintains attractive, entertaining, and educational bulletin boards.
Participates in the implementation of all activities and programs in the Center; assists all employees and volunteers in maintaining the cleanliness and attractiveness of all facilities, equipment, and grounds.
Helps to organize all special program events or field trips; advertises events appropriately; works in conjunction with appropriate departments for social media updates.
Implements educational, spiritual, and character-building programming within the structure of the programs set forth by director; provides opportunities for physical and mental stimulation through both inside and outside learning activities.
Uses appropriate supplies and materials for recreational activities; ensures the children's safety in utilizing the same; maintains accountability and inventory of all recreational equipment; monitors and maintains adequate inventory of supplies and equipment for center operations; recommends and submits purchase requests to the supervisor for approval.
Collects all statistical information for all grants, licensing, and Divisional and Territorial in a timely manner as required by the Corps Officers; prepares and maintains up-to-date records and required reports in a timely manner (attendance, development progress, discipline reports, etc.).
Reports all accidents to the Corps Officers and parent(s) in an accurate and timely manner, in the director’s absence.
Builds and maintains effective and positive relationships with parents; informs parents of children's progress and specific incidents.
Transports patrons and children to and from the Center; observes good driving habits at all times in order to ensure the safety of patrons and The Salvation Army vehicles.
Program Development Responsibilities (15%)
Plans, develops, coordinates, and implements Citadel Corps and Red Shield Family Center programming to include social services, after-school programs, summer day camp programs, community center programs, music programs, senior programs, Christmas programs, and special activities.
Ensures all staff and volunteers are compliant with Safe from Harm; conducts Safe from Harm training for all Corps volunteers and staff.
Organizes and supervises all field trips; including but not limited to setting up, gathering all supplies for, arranging payment, scheduling staff within ratio, getting directions & communicating them to staff and making sure events are scheduled accordingly.
Recruits and coordinates relevant volunteer activities.
Grants Administration Responsibilities (50%)
Researches, locates, studies, prioritizes, and contacts existing and new funding sources in order to apply for grant funds.
Finds, develops, writes, submits, and administrates local foundation, corporate, state, and federal grants.
Administers existing grants and ensures compliance with contract restrictions; serves as liaison to funding sources.
Prepares grant applications and compiles required paperwork to maximize opportunities for financial support for The Salvation Army programs.
Explores and develops methods of strengthening and enhancing The Salvation Army’s presence and mission.
Provides financial and program oversight of all grant/contractual agreements.
Other Responsibilities:
Attends and participates in regularly scheduled in-service training sessions.
Builds and maintains effective and positive relationships with program participants, parents, other community agencies and church groups to promote awareness of Corps activities.
Coordinates with social service staff as needed in regards to grant administration.
Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or G.E.D. required, with one to two years of college courses in business administration, public administration or related field, preferred.

Two years’ experience teaching child development programs or leading community programs,
or
any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities,
Certifications:
Valid State Driver’s License
Physical Requirements:

Ability to drive a vehicle safely and follow all applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
