What You’ll Do

Strategic Development Leadership

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive development strategy with a strong emphasis on major gifts, foundation partnerships, and long-term philanthropic growth
  • Build and manage a healthy donor pipeline with clear strategies for identification, cultivation, invitation, and stewardship
  • Establish measurable goals for revenue growth, donor engagement, and retention
  • Regularly evaluate performance and refine strategies to ensure sustained impact

Major Gifts & Relationship Management

  • Personally steward a portfolio of high-capacity donors and prospective partners
  • Initiate and lead meaningful conversations that confidently invite investment in GEI’s mission
  • Cultivate relationships through consistent in-person and virtual engagement
  • Move individuals and partners from interest to active, ongoing investment

Foundation & Strategic Partnerships

  • Identify, pursue, and secure foundation and institutional support aligned with GEI’s mission
  • Develop compelling proposals, cases for support, and impact reports
  • Build long-term relationships with foundation leaders and grant-making organizations
  • Establish scalable systems for grant prospecting, submission, and reporting

External Presence & Opportunity Creation

  • Represent GEI in strategic environments to expand visibility, influence, and partnership opportunities
  • Intentionally build relationships within networks and communities with capacity to give
  • Collaborate with executive leadership and board members to open doors and strengthen connections
  • Proactively pursue opportunities that advance philanthropic growth

Donor Experience & Stewardship

  • Design meaningful donor experiences that clearly connect generosity to impact
  • Ensure consistent, personalized communication that reflects gratitude, transparency, and vision
  • Strengthen donor retention and lifetime engagement through intentional stewardship
  • Create opportunities for partners to see, hear, and experience the transformation they are supporting

Collaboration & Internal Alignment

  • Partner with leadership, program teams, and creative services to translate impact into compelling stories
  • Collaborate with finance to ensure accurate reporting and build donor confidence
  • Equip and support board members in their role as ambassadors and partners in development

Systems & Accountability

  • Maintain accurate donor records and activity tracking within CRM systems
  • Provide regular reporting on pipeline health, donor engagement, and revenue progress
  • Ensure disciplined follow-up and consistent execution across all opportunities

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or CFRE preferred
  • 5–7+ years of progressive development experience with demonstrated success in major gifts and donor growth
  • Proven ability to meet or exceed revenue goals through relationship-driven engagement
  • Experience securing foundation or institutional support
  • Strong ability to confidently and clearly invite financial partnership
  • Exceptional communication and storytelling skills that connect mission to impact
  • Strategic thinker with strong execution and follow-through
  • Highly relational, with the ability to build trust across diverse audiences
  • Organized and disciplined in managing pipelines, priorities, and follow-ups
  • Experience with CRM systems and development analytics

Work Environment

This is an onsite role based in San Antonio, Texas, with regular in-person engagement both on campus and throughout the community. The nature of this role requires a visible, relational presence to effectively build trust, cultivate partnerships, and advance the mission.
