Job description

Pre-Production Specialist - Job Description
As our Pre-Production Specialist, you'll be the bridge between client files, data, and production. You'll prepare print-ready files, manage impositions and proofs, process mailing data, and ensure every project moves smoothly from concept to press to mail stream.
This is a hands-on technical role for someone who thrives in a production environment, understands the details that matter, and can keep workflows tight, accurate, and compliant.
What You'll Do:
  • Prepare and process print files, ensuring correct layout, pagination, bleed, and press readiness.
  • Verify impositions, conduct digital/hard-copy proofing, and ensure color accuracy.
  • Complete color management tasks, including calibration and ICC profile checks.
  • Generate and output printing plates and maintain RIP/prepress workflow tools.
  • Process mailing data, including importing, cleansing, CASS certification, NCOA updates, and presorting.
  • Review mail piece designs for USPS compliance and generate postal documentation.
  • Troubleshoot file and data issues to prevent delays and maintain accuracy.
  • Communicate proactively with Account Managers, Production, Mailing, and Pressroom teams to ensure smooth handoffs and accurate execution.
  • Support workflow improvements that enhance quality, efficiency, and client experience.

Who We Are Looking For:
  • Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Clear communicator who anticipates issues and resolves them quickly.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment with many moving parts.
  • Curious, technically minded, and motivated to grow in both prepress and mailing.

What You Bring:
  • 2+ years of experience in prepress, print production, platemaking, imposition, proofing, mailing services, or data processing.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
  • Familiarity with RIP software, prepress tools, and basic color workflows.
  • Experience working with data files (.csv, .txt, .dbf) and general data processing.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Teams, and Outlook.
  • Bonus: Experience with BCC Mail Manager, Apogee, Pitstop, XMPie, SQL, or advanced Excel.
