Job description

Practicum Supervisor:ย The practicum supervisor serves as an educational mentor and an important key individual in the pre-practicum and practicum experience. The practicum supervisor represents the university and works collaboratively with the supervising practitioner to ensure the teacher candidate is supported and fully engages in the pre-practicum and practicum experiences. The practicum supervisor, in conjunction with the supervising practitioner, conducts a minimum of eight (8) in-person observations of the teacher candidate and provides high-quality feedback and mentoring to ensure the teacher candidate reaches proficient ratings across all CAP elements.

For each special education teacher candidate they supervise, practicum supervisors are responsible for:

Coordinating the CAP process as outlined in the CAP Guidelines to improve candidate practice and assess readiness for the licensure role, including:

  • Providing the candidate with robust and equitable guidance and support, including high-quality feedback that improves their practice.ย 
  • Supporting the supervising practitioner to provide the candidate with robust and equitable guidance and support and complete all required components of the CAP process.
  • Collaborating with the candidate and supervising practitioner to collect, synthesize, and analyze evidence from multiple sources, including observations, a measure of student learning, student feedback, a professional practice goal, and candidate artifacts.
  • Facilitating all Three-Way Meetings with the supervising practitioner and candidate.
  • Conducting six (1 Pre-Practicum + 5 Practicum) announced observations of the candidate.ย 
  • Calibrating with the supervising practitioner using multiple sources of evidence to determine the candidateโ€™s readiness to teach.ย 
  • Completing and submitting all required CAP forms.ย 
  • Supporting the candidate to ensure the practicum placement is appropriate and supportive of their growth and development.ย 
  • Collaborating with the supervising practitioner and sponsoring organization to identify appropriate, differentiated supports if the candidate is not on track to meet expectations.
  • Providing feedback to the sponsoring organization on their experience as a program supervisor.
  • Attend bi-weekly virtual seminar meetings with teacher candidates.

Practicum Supervisors must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold a current Massachusetts Educator Professional License in one or more of the following fields: Moderate Disabilities (PreK-2, PreK-8, or 5-12), Severe Disabilities (PreK-2 or All Levels), or Special Education Administrator, All Levels.ย 
  • A minimum of a Master's Degree in Special Education or a closely related field
  • Familiarity with the Massachusetts Educator Evaluation System
  • A minimum of 5 years of special education teaching or administration.ย 
  • Available during PreK-12 school hours to conduct in-person observations and conduct three-way meetings with teacher candidates and supervising practitioners
  • Ability to adhere to University policies and procedures.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and within FERPA and HIPAA guidelines.
  • All new employees must complete the FERPA, Anti-Harassment, and any other required online trainings within 15 days of employment.
  • General knowledge of the Universityโ€™s mission, purpose, and goals and the role this position plays in achieving those goals.
