The Pilot Sales Manager typically focuses on selling aviation-related services or aircraft, requiring industry-specific credentials and experience. While both roles involve client interaction and sales skills, the Pilot Sales Manager's expertise is specialized in aviation, making it distinct from the more general Sales Executive position.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Pilot Sales Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Pilot Sales Manager, you need a solid background in sales strategies, market analysis, and a relevant degree in business or aviation management. Familiarity with CRM software, aviation industry platforms, and sales performance tracking tools is important. Strong negotiation, leadership, and relationship-building skills help in managing teams and cultivating client partnerships. These capabilities are critical for driving revenue growth and maintaining a competitive edge in the aviation sales market.

What are Pilot Sales Managers?

Pilot Sales Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing and driving sales initiatives for products or services within the aviation industry, particularly those related to pilot training, recruitment, or equipment. They develop sales strategies, manage client relationships (often with airlines, flight schools, or aviation organizations), and work to achieve revenue targets. Their role may also involve negotiating contracts, coordinating with marketing teams, and staying informed about industry trends. Pilot Sales Managers typically have a background in sales, aviation, or both, and possess strong communication and negotiation skills.

How does a Pilot Sales Manager typically collaborate with technical and operations teams to implement pilot programs for clients?

A Pilot Sales Manager works closely with technical and operations teams to ensure the successful rollout of pilot programs for prospective clients. They coordinate between sales, engineering, and service delivery to align customer expectations with technical capabilities, manage timelines, and troubleshoot any issues that arise during the pilot phase. This collaboration often involves regular meetings, shared project management tools, and clear communication to adapt solutions based on client feedback, ultimately increasing the likelihood of converting pilot programs into long-term contracts.

The ideal candidate will bring experience working with robotics and connected (IoT) devices, including autonomous equipment and data-driven solutions, and leverages that expertise to accelerate adoption, deliver compelling ROI-based selling, and scale deployments across key verticals.
This individual will work cross-functionally with Sales, Product Management, Marketing, and Engineering to accelerate market penetration, develop scalable programs, and position BISSELL as a leader in automated cleaning solutions.
Responsibilities
Revenue Ownership & Growth Strategy
  • Own national revenue, pipeline, and profitability targets for robotics and innovation platforms
  • Develop and execute go-to-market strategies to scale adoption of robotic cleaning equipment
  • Identify and prioritize key verticals (Jan/San, Healthcare, Education, Retail, Logistics, etc.)
  • Drive category growth and position BISSELL as a top-tier provider in automated cleaning

Business Development & End-User Adoption
  • Lead new business development focused on robotics and emerging technologies
  • Identify, develop, and convert high-value end-user opportunities into pilots and national programs
  • Own pilot strategy, execution, and conversion to long-term contracts
  • Deliver compelling ROI-based selling (labor savings, productivity, TCO)
  • Conduct high-impact demos, ride-alongs, and field engagements to accelerate adoption.
  • Track pilot performance, conversion rates, and program ROI

Distributor & Partner Leadership
  • Partner with national and regional distributors to build robotics pipeline and capability
  • Train and enable distributor sales teams on robotic solutions and value propositions
  • Collaborate with broker network (e.g., Avision) to drive coverage and execution
  • Establish robotics "centers of excellence" within key distributor partners

Innovation Commercialization
  • Serve as the commercial lead for new product launches (e.g., autonomous scrubbers, AI-enabled solutions)
  • Provide field feedback to Product and Engineering teams to inform roadmap and enhancements
  • Develop scalable programs (leasing, service plans, pilot frameworks) to reduce adoption barriers
  • Support pricing strategy, competitive positioning, and category storytelling

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, product management, supply chain, and finance to support regional growth initiatives and program execution.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, including occasional lifting of product packages.

Qualifications
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience working with robotics and IoT-enabled devices, including autonomous cleaning equipment, connected platforms, and remote monitoring/analytics solutions
  • 7-10 years of progressive sales experience, including:
    • National account or strategic sales leadership
    • Commercial equipment, robotics, or technology-driven solutions (preferred)
  • Proven success launching or scaling new product categories
  • Strong experience with distributor-based sales models
  • Demonstrated ability to sell complex solutions with ROI justification
  • Experience leading pilots, programs, and multi-location rollouts

SKILLS REQUIRED
  • Ability to function as a field manager facilitating processes and performance among disparate functional departments and outside resources.
    • Travel - Up to 75%

This position requires the ability to manage the flow of data, perform analysis, generate summary reports and communicate by voice or data while being connected in the office, at home or while travelling by laptop or mobile device regularly without regard to time zone or day of the week.
