Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry Oncology position at a Level 1 Trauma facility in Arizona, requiring telemetry interpretation skills and at least 2 years of RN experience.

Details
  • Acute care setting in a Med/Surg Telemetry Oncology unit (Tower 6) with 32 beds
  • Patient population is approximately 85% oncology and 15% telemetry/med-surg, including surgical, medical, and oncology patients
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4
  • Telemetry monitoring via Philips; RNs are required to independently interpret EKGs
  • Ventilatory equipment in use includes BiPAP and CPAP
  • EMR: Cerner (experience required)
  • 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
  • 4 weekend shifts required per 4-week period
  • Holiday shifts assigned based on unit coverage rotation
  • Floating required to other Med/Surg and Telemetry units
  • Support staff includes a charge nurse (light patient assignment/Oncology Resource RN), 2 PCTs (days and nights), a SWAT RN IV team for difficult IV access, RT available 24/7, and pharmacy available 24/7
Requirements
  • Active AZ or Compact (NLC) RN license required; license must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses are not accepted
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications are not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Telemetry experience required, including independent EKG interpretation
  • Cerner EMR experience required
  • Candidates must permanently reside at least 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to verify permanent address
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Driver's license required for consideration
  • Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia (dysrhythmia) exam prior to offer confirmation; two attempts are allowed
  • Chemo certification is a plus but not required
Additional Information
  • Orientation includes 2 days of floor-specific training
  • On the first day of orientation, nurses must pass a pass/fail sterile technique exam covering Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes; study materials are provided in advance
  • SIMs Lab is required during orientation and is pass/fail; nurses have been dismissed for breaking sterile field — candidates must be competent in maintaining sterile field
  • Orientation also includes educational sessions on lifts, restraints, and wound care
  • Candidates who fail the Relias Dysrhythmia exam or the sterile technique exam on the second attempt will be ineligible for CommonSpirit Sacramento and Arizona facilities for 6 months
  • Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates who worked PRN through an outside staffing firm will be considered
  • Navy scrubs are required
  • Candidates must have natural hair color, no facial piercings; men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
  • Candidates must have their own personal vehicle
  • First-time travelers are not explicitly noted as accepted or excluded
