Engineering Manager

Reports To: Vice President of Manufacturing

Location: Springfield, Ohio

Position Summary

The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading the engineering function to support product development, manufacturing efficiency, and customer-focused innovation across the organization. This role oversees engineering activities including new product development, product improvements, manufacturing process engineering, and technical support for operations and sales. The Engineering Manager leads a cross-functional engineering team and collaborates with production, quality, supply chain, and sales teams to ensure successful product development and implementation. This role combines technical leadership, project management, and hands-on engineering support to drive continuous improvement, operational efficiency, and profitable growth. This role should encompass a drive to make profitable decisions on R & D and resource allocation. This position is based in Springfield, Ohio and requires approximately 35% travel. Travel will be a mix of visiting facilities in Lancaster, New York and Burlington, Ontario, Canada to support engineering collaboration, product development, and operational initiatives, visiting customer sites to assist with driving product development, supporting the sales team and developing strong relationships, and to industry trade shows to learn more about the industry including customers and competitors

Position Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the engineering team to strengthen technical capabilities and support business growth.
  • Mentor engineers and technical staff while fostering a collaborative, high-performance engineering culture.
  • Establish engineering priorities aligned with company strategic objectives.
  • Provide guidance on engineering standards, documentation, and best practices.
  • Oversee the development of new products from concept through prototype, testing, and production launch.
  • Manage engineering design activities using CAD platforms such as SolidWorks or equivalent 3D design software.
  • Coordinate cross-functional product development efforts with production, sales, and supply chain teams.
  • Evaluate customer needs and input then collaborate with sales teams to design and refine products.
  • Lead improvements to manufacturing processes to increase efficiency, quality, and productivity.
  • Design or modify production tooling, jigs, fixtures, and equipment to support manufacturing operations.
  • Provide technical support to production teams to resolve manufacturing issues and optimize processes.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on operational excellence and cost reduction.
  • Manage engineering projects from concept to completion while ensuring timelines, budgets, and deliverables are met.
  • Coordinate engineering resources and project priorities across multiple initiatives.
  • Develop and implement product testing procedures and validation processes.
  • Maintain accurate engineering documentation including drawings, specifications, and production instructions.
  • Oversee product numbering, bills of material, and documentation updates within ERP systems.
  • Provide technical support to sales, production, customer service, and quality teams.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related engineering discipline required.
  • Minimum 7–10 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing or product development environment.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of leadership or management experience overseeing engineering teams or technical projects.
  • Experience with new product development, manufacturing engineering, and process improvement.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, Pro/E, or AutoCAD.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, product testing, and engineering documentation.
  • Experience with ERP systems and engineering change management processes.
  • Knowledge of ISO quality systems preferred.

Relationships

Work closely with internal teams including Operations, Purchasing, Sales, Customer Service, and Finance as well as external suppliers, customers, and end users to ensure engineering solutions meet operational and market needs.
