Senior Landfill Engineer

Description
The Mannik & Smith Group, Inc. (MSG) is a people focused, award-winning, full-service consulting firm that offers a wide array of services including civil and geotechnical engineering, environmental consulting, planning, landscape architecture, agriculture, surveying and construction support. Our talented staff of more than 650+ professionals deliver integrated planning, design, engineering and construction solutions.
MSG is seeking a Senior Landfill Engineer to join our growing environmental and solid waste team. This role offers the opportunity to work on a wide variety of landfill permitting, design, construction, and operational support projects for municipal and private-sector clients across Ohio and surrounding states.
Key Responsibilities
  • Solid waste landfill design, permitting, and operational support for municipal and private landfill facilities.
  • Preparation of landfill permitting documents, construction plans, technical specifications, and certification reports.
  • Construction oversight and construction quality assurance (CQA) monitoring for landfill facilities and related infrastructure.
  • Support groundwater monitoring, explosive gas monitoring, stormwater management, and erosion control efforts.
  • Assist with landfill gas collection and control system design, including blowers, flares, and energy recovery systems.
  • Coordinate with junior engineers and field staff on project assignments and construction activities.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams across Ohio offices.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related engineering field required.
  • Minimum 5 to 7+ years of experience in solid waste, landfill engineering, environmental consulting, site civil, or geotechnical engineering.
  • Experience with Landfill Gas Management design and permitting.
  • Familiarity with groundwater monitoring, explosive gas monitoring, or environmental compliance programs.
  • Experience with Ohio EPA solid waste regulations or similar state regulatory programs.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer Intern (EI/EIT) certification preferred.
  • Strong technical writing and report preparation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and work collaboratively in a team environment.
