Job Description
General Motors is seeking a Level 7 Payroll IT Analyst to support the analysis, enhancement, delivery, and ongoing stability of payroll technology solutions. This role partners closely with Payroll, HR, Finance, compliance stakeholders, product teams, vendors, and technical delivery teams to improve payroll systems, enable business process changes, resolve complex issues, and deliver scalable solutions that support accurate and timely pay outcomes.
This position is ideal for a strong functional and technical analyst who can translate business needs into system requirements, lead cross-functional solution design, support implementations and releases, and drive continuous improvement across payroll applications and integrations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with Payroll, HR, Finance, and IT stakeholders to gather, analyze, and document business requirements for payroll systems, processes, integrations, and reporting
  • Lead solution analysis for payroll enhancements, regulatory changes, defect remediation, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Translate business requirements into functional specifications, process flows, user stories, test scenarios, and implementation plans
  • Support end-to-end delivery of payroll system changes, including requirements clarification, design reviews, testing coordination, release readiness, and production validation
  • Analyze upstream and downstream impacts across HR, timekeeping, benefits, finance, and data integration processes
  • Troubleshoot complex payroll system issues and coordinate resolution with internal technical teams, managed service partners, and software vendors
  • Support root cause analysis for production incidents and recurring defects; recommend preventive actions and durable fixes
  • Coordinate and execute system, integration, user acceptance, and regression testing for payroll-related changes
  • Ensure payroll solutions align with internal controls, audit requirements, security expectations, and compliance obligations
  • Maintain strong documentation for requirements, configurations, support procedures, decision logs, and release artifacts
  • Identify opportunities to simplify payroll processes, improve data quality, reduce manual effort, and enhance user experience
  • Serve as a knowledgeable point of contact for payroll technology capabilities, dependencies, and delivery planning
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to junior analysts and project team members as needed
Required qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, Human Resources, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Significant experience supporting payroll systems, enterprise HR technology, or related business applications
  • Strong experience in business and systems analysis, requirements gathering, process mapping, and solution documentation
  • Experience supporting system enhancements, production support, defect triage, testing, and release activities
  • Understanding of payroll business processes, controls, data dependencies, and compliance-sensitive workflows
  • Experience working with cross-functional stakeholders, including business teams, technical teams, vendors, and project leaders
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and issue-resolution skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred qualifications
  • Experience with enterprise payroll platforms such as Workday Payroll, ADP, UKG/Kronos, SAP Payroll, or equivalent systems
  • Experience with HRIS, timekeeping, benefits, finance, or middleware/integration platforms
  • ETL experience is a plus, including tools and technologies such as DataStage, Spark, and Python
  • Familiarity with incident management, change management, and release management practices
  • Experience with data analysis, reporting, and reconciliation in support of payroll operations
  • Knowledge of audit, compliance, and regulatory requirements affecting payroll technology
  • Experience operating in Agile, product, or hybrid delivery environments
  • Prior experience leading medium-to-large enhancement efforts or workstreams with limited oversight
