Job description

International Payroll Supervisor

Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, a premier global law firm, is looking for an experienced International Payroll Supervisor to join our White Plains office (hybrid). The role focuses on ensuring compliance with international payroll and tax statutory requirements across multiple countries and providing subjectโ€‘matter expertise in dayโ€‘toโ€‘day international payroll operations.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with international payroll and tax statutory requirements across multiple countries.
  • Provide subjectโ€‘matter expertise in dayโ€‘toโ€‘day international payroll operations and advise on escalated matters and audits.
  • Lead the processing, reconciliation, and auditing of international payrolls while collaborating with the US payroll, expatriate payroll, and payroll vendors to meet deadlines accurately.
  • Manage dual tax obligations, taxโ€‘equalization, and shadow payrolls using knowledge of local tax treaties.
  • Develop and maintain international payroll policies, SOPs, and training programs for the payroll team.
  • Coordinate and oversee departmental projects, dayโ€‘toโ€‘day operations, and longโ€‘range plans.
  • Monitor time, attendance, overtime, and expense reports to ensure accuracy and adherence to Firm policies.
  • Utilize the Firmโ€™s performance management process to communicate expectations, coach employees, and address performance issues in collaboration with Human Resources.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of five years of international payroll experience, including at least two years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Extensive knowledge of international tax laws, labor regulations, and social security programs across multiple countries.
  • Proficiency with firm software such as Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and experience with Workday HCM or a similar global payroll system.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, auditing, and planning skills.
  • Ability to supervise staff, administer Firm policies, and handle multiple projects with shifting priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Discretion, sound judgment, and ability to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality.
  • Flexible to adjust hours to meet operating needs.
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree preferred.
