Job description

We are seeking a detail-driven Payroll Processor with 2-4 years of hands-on payroll processing experience to manage end-to-end payroll execution. This role is ideal for a payroll professional who has owned payroll cycles in ADP, Workday, or UKG and thrives in a deadline-driven environment. This position partners with HR, Finance, and operational leaders and contributes to strengthening payroll processes and controls.
 
We prefer a local candidate, or at least be within a few-hour driving distance to Des Moines, IA to be onsite if needed but this position can be mostly remote.
 
Hourly wage range: $26.44-30.77

Position Responsibilities may include, but not limited to
  • Execute full-cycle payroll processing for hourly and salaried employees using UKG Pro
  • Process payroll adjustments including retro pay, off-cycle runs, bonuses, and terminations
  • Validate time and attendance data and resolve discrepancies prior to payroll close
  • Administer payroll deductions, garnishments, and tax withholdings
  • Configure, maintain, and audit multi-state payroll tax setups to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations
  • Set up and maintain state-specific tax codes, reciprocity rules, and local jurisdiction taxes within payroll systems
  • Monitor employee work location changes and apply correct tax withholdings based on nexus, residency, and sourcing rules
  • Audit payroll registers and reconcile payroll reports each cycle
  • Partner with HR and Finance to ensure accurate employee data and timely payroll changes
  • Respond to employee payroll questions with a focus on accuracy and service
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll workflows
  • Support implementation of payroll timelines and controls
  • Track payroll adjustments and trends
Required Skills and Experience
  • 2-4 years of hands-on multi-state payroll processing experience
  • Direct experience owning and running payroll in ADP, Workday, UKG (Ultimate Kronos Group), or similar systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other office applications
  • Experience supporting regular payroll cycles (weekly, bi-weekly)
  • Strong understanding of wage and hour rules and payroll compliance
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local taxation
  • Strong understanding of HR best practices
  • High attention to detail and ability to meet strict payroll deadlines
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Experience with payroll and timekeeping systems; UKG Pro and Workforce Dimensions
  • Experience with ticketing system software
  • Proficiency with HRIS configurations relating to payroll
  • Experience working in a remote environment 
Physical Requirements
  • Repetitive motions that include the wrists, hands and/or fingers
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting, remaining in a stationary position for prolonged periods
  • Visual perception to perform job including peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
