Job description

Our client is seeking an experienced Finance & Payroll Integration Consultant to support a major payroll transformation initiative involving the implementation of Workday and integration into SAP Financials.

This individual will serve as the key liaison between Finance, Payroll, and HR teams, ensuring payroll-related financial data is accurately mapped, validated, tested, and reconciled throughout the implementation lifecycle.

The ideal candidate combines strong payroll accounting expertise with experience supporting payroll-to-finance integrations, financial reporting, testing, and reconciliation activities within large enterprise environments.

This is a highly collaborative role focused on business process validation, financial controls, data accuracy, and successful deployment—not system configuration or payroll processing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with Finance, Payroll, HR, and project stakeholders to support payroll transformation activities and financial process design.
  • Validate payroll accounting requirements, including taxes, deductions, accruals, earnings, and employer liabilities.
  • Ensure payroll transactions are accurately mapped and posted to SAP General Ledger and financial reporting structures.
  • Support payroll-to-finance integration design, testing, and reconciliation activities.
  • Lead and execute User Acceptance Testing (UAT), parallel testing, data validation, and issue resolution efforts.
  • Analyze payroll and financial data to identify discrepancies, root causes, and corrective actions.
  • Support month-end close processes related to payroll accounting and financial reporting.
  • Create testing documentation, reconciliation reports, validation records, and audit-ready project artifacts.
  • Assist with deployment, cutover, stabilization, and post-go-live support activities.
  • Collaborate across Finance, Payroll, HR, and implementation teams to ensure successful project outcomes.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience supporting payroll accounting, payroll finance, or payroll-related system implementations.
  • Strong understanding of payroll accounting processes, including payroll taxes, deductions, accruals, journal entries, and reconciliations.
  • Experience working with General Ledger structures and payroll-to-finance integrations.
  • Experience supporting ERP, payroll, HRIS, or financial system implementations, upgrades, or transformations.
  • Hands-on experience executing UAT, parallel payroll testing, data validation, and defect resolution.
  • Experience supporting payroll-related month-end close and financial reporting activities.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Workday, SAP, ADP, or other enterprise payroll and financial platforms.
  • Experience with payroll transformation, payroll conversion, or HR/payroll modernization initiatives.
  • Familiarity with financial controls, audit requirements, and compliance processes.
  • Experience working within large-scale enterprise implementation programs.

Core Areas of Expertise

  • Payroll Accounting
  • General Ledger Accounting
  • Payroll-to-Finance Integrations
  • Financial Systems
  • ERP Platforms
  • Payroll Transformations
  • User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
  • Data Validation & Reconciliation
  • Financial Controls & Compliance
  • Month-End Close & Financial Reporting

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • We are seeking a consultant who understands how payroll data impacts financial reporting and how payroll transactions should be accounted for within an ERP environment.
  • Candidates do not need to be Workday technical experts. However, they should possess strong payroll accounting knowledge and experience validating how payroll data flows from HR and payroll systems into financial systems such as SAP.
