Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

Performs operations of the Payroll Department. Responsible for updating the payroll system, which includes hours worked weekly, new hires, terminations, payroll changes and distribution of payroll checks. Prepares various reports and payments for filing/transmittal to the third party payroll administrator, credit union, insurance carriers, and governmental agencies.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Performs all regular duties associated with the preparation, generation, and distribution of payroll checks:

  1. Prepares payroll data input sheets reflecting new hires, terminations, (salaried), rate changes, above transactions, as well as vacations, wage assignments/garnishes, hours and dollars for all employees, and voluntary deductions; investigates questionableentriesas necessary.
  1. Reviews approved personnel action forms todetermine: names and rates of pay of new hires; wage rate, changes, and termination/leave ofabsencetransactions of other employees.
  1. Prepares time sheets forsubsequentpay period andtime cardsfor future vacationers.
  1. Verify third party payments.
  1. Stuffs individual pay envelopes and distributes appropriately.
  1. Ensures all benefit deductions are updated in thePayrollsystem. Prepares all data for open enrollment.


ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assumes responsibility for all non-routing unscheduled payroll transactions, including vacation checks, issuing stop-payment orders, issuing replacement checks, and preparing hand-drawn checks for emergency leaves, terminations, and late vacations; prepares input data for reporting hand-drawn check transactions.
  1. Mustmaintaina clean and orderly work area, which provides a safe working environment for all employees.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Working knowledge of typical corporate payroll transactions, policies, and procedures.
  1. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  1. Ability toestablish, enhance, andmaintainprudent records and files as required by the Company, andmaintainmandated records and files for all government agencies.
  1. Skilled in the use of office equipment, including data processing systems.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Collegedegree is preferred.
  1. Two or threeyearsexperiencein computerized payroll preferred.
  1. Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  1. Basic computer skillsrequired,excel experience is preferred.
  1. Knowledge of ADP Workforce software is preferred.
