Department Summary

The UNT System Controller leads financial management and accounting activities that provide high quality, efficient, effective, and accurate financial services to all campus constituents. This team provides timely and accurate financial reporting that will withstand audits and provide reliable and meaningful information to both internal and external stakeholders. Controller operations include campus accounting and financial reporting (excluding budget and decision support), financial statement external audit management, payroll operations, tax compliance, and capital asset accounting.

Position Overview

The Payroll Analyst II position provides accounting functions necessary in the Payroll Area. The position will assist in analyzing transactions, completing accounting entries, voucher corrections and reconciliation research.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree in accounting or a related field and three (3) years related payroll/time and labor experience; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

* Knowledge of applicable laws, codes regulations, standards, methods and practices related to payroll and/or time and labor systems
* Experience with PeopleSoft North American Payroll, and/or Time and Labor, modules
* Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn University policies and procedures related to the area of assignment
* Skill in making mathematical calculations and computations with intermediate to advanced MS Excel experience
* Thorough understanding of payroll process from time entry, and leave accruals
* Ability to provide high-quality customer service and maintain those standards for the area
* Experience leading teams and the ability to encourage, inspire and support others to develop confidence and capability to help them realize their full potential
* Ability to keep complex records; to assemble and organize data of complex nature, and to prepare and submit reports in professional formats

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:

  • Two or more years of Accounting and/or high level bookkeeping experience.
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Excel.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

Job Duties

  • Processes Monthly and Semi-Monthly payroll in PeopleSoft North American Payroll module. 
  • Maintains employee pay data, records pay data changes from source documents and interprets University policies and procedures, and State and Federal regulations affecting payroll procedures. 
  • Reviews and ensures accurate computation of pay, conducts appropriate audits to ensure data integrity and compliance, and coordinates with internal departments as appropriate to resolve discrepancies. 
  • Analyzes and recommends solutions to address customer issues related to payroll and leave reporting.
  • Represents organization by utilizing effective communication and customer service skills to serve customers and provide information and updates on changes and processes. 
  • Provides helpful information and anticipates needs of organization to keep customers up to date and help them utilize the system.
