Job description

Description:

The Patient Services Representative is responsible for ensuring patients are received in a friendly manner as well as managing administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, entering demographics, verifying insurance coverage, and collecting patient copays and balances due. The Patient Services Representative team rotates between the Front Desk and Call Center.  


Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Check in patients for appointments.  Validate demographic and insurance data within the system to ensure current, complete, and accurate patient records at each visit.
  • Complete Daily Appointment Spreadsheet prior to patient visits with correct insurance coverage, copay required for services rendered, and any patient balance.  Update EMR when corrections are required.  
  • Obtain signed consents on all required documents.
  • Collect copayments and patient balances.
  • Schedule/reschedule appointments and manage provider schedules.      
  • Promptly and professionally answer phone calls and direct calls to appropriate staff.
  • Create payment plans in Waystar for patient balances as necessary.
  • Reconcile payments collected at the end of each day.

Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2+ years of experience in a medical practice or healthcare facility in a medical receptionist or patient account representative role is required.
  • 2+ years of electronic medical records (EMR) and office management systems experience required.
  • 2+ years of insurance verification is required.
  • Experience in patient collections and payment plans.
  • Epic EMR experience is preferred but not required.
  • Certificate of Patient Account Representative (CPAR) is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology and HIPAA regulations required.
  • Vascular surgery office experience preferred but not required.
