Job description

About the Role

The Business Development Manager (BDM) plays a key role in driving new revenue growth within an assigned geographic territory. This position focuses on identifying, prospecting, and securing new business opportunities while nurturing relationships with existing and inactive clients.

You'll develop and execute sales strategies, collaborate with field management, and deliver measurable results that align with company goals and forecasts.

About Surge

With over 50 years of experience, Surge is a national leader in providing quality staffing and innovative workforce solutions. We pride ourselves on building long-term partnerships with our clients and matching top talent to the right opportunities. Unlike other staffing agencies, we take the time to understand our clients' goals and culture. Our nationwide network connects more than 122,000 employees annually-and we're continuing to grow.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement customized sales strategies for at least 30 target accounts in partnership with your manager.

  • Identify, research, and pursue new business opportunities through calls, networking, presentations, and marketing campaigns.

  • Conduct independent and joint sales calls with branch and management staff for both active and inactive accounts.

  • Serve as the lead sales resource for target accounts, developing detailed account plans and growth strategies.

  • Collaborate with branch and headquarters teams to ensure product knowledge, solution alignment, and client satisfaction.

  • Drive sales closures to shorten the sales cycle and achieve or exceed set goals.

  • Assess client needs and provide consultative solutions to address workforce challenges.

  • Build relationships within the business community and actively participate in local networking events to enhance brand visibility.

  • Accurately document all sales activities and communications in the company database and submit required reports.

  • Respond promptly to customer and prospect inquiries, ensuring a positive client experience.

  • Perform additional duties as needed to support the success of the company.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor's degree preferred).

  • Minimum 3 years of proven outside sales or business development experience, ideally in a consultative, B2B environment.

  • Demonstrated success in cold calling, presenting, negotiating, and closing sales.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and general internet research.

  • Self-motivated, results-driven, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, competitive environment.

  • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills (both written and verbal).

  • Ability to travel locally to client sites and company offices.

  • Team-oriented with the ability to work independently when needed.

  • Professional demeanor-calm under pressure, adaptable, and solutions-focused.

  • Familiarity with the local market and business community is a plus.
