Job description

 

Health Information Technician performs functions necessary for processing patient medical data and record the data in paper or computer files. They assist in processing records by organizing and storing information either through paper files, or through electronic database and ensure compliance with privacy laws.   Technicians must examine the data to ensure that it is correct and accurate. The primary responsibility is to process accurate records of all patient information from sorting, analyzing, releasing, storing, and ensuring a complete patient record. Assist in backing-up HIM Technicians and other assigned duties as needed.


Requirements: 

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent; Degree in the Health Information Management field preferred 
  2. Strong working knowledge of data entry and database systems
  3. Ability to operate office equipment 
  4. Working knowledge of HIPAA regulations
  5. Knowledge of medical records process
  6. Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.
  7. Demonstrates confidence and proficiency in use of computer
  8. Professional appearance and manner
  9. Ability to maintain confidentiality
