Job description

Pavement Marking Assistant
Under general supervision, the purpose of the job is to perform manual work in the operation of light equipment associated with the preparation and painting of pavement markings.
-Assists in the layout of pavement markings.
-Operates a variety of hand-held equipment, machinery, and vehicles in the installation of pavement markings, e.g., hand liner, grinder, blower, trimmer, torches, air compressors and other various tools.
-Maintains equipment used for pavement marking installation; performs preventive maintenance on all tools and equipment; clean and maintain tools, machinery, and equipment.
-Assists or installs roadway signs in accordance with policies and procedures.
-Ensures the safe and proper operation of trades tools and power equipment; adheres to prescribed safety standards and regulatory requirements; ensures all work produced adheres to prescribed standards of the Manual Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
-Performs duties as assigned/necessary which are related, or logical in assignment to the position.
-Minimum Qualifications
-Education: High school diploma or GED;
-Experience: Performed related experience in pavement markings, sign installation experience or demonstrated ability to learn the technical aspects of the work.
-Must have reliable transportation
Required Licensure/Certification:
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities;
-Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
-Knowledge of the safe and proper use and care of manual, electrical, gas, and hydraulic powered tools and equipment used in the application of pavement markings.
-Ability to climb, reach, bend, stoop, kneel, sit and stand for extended periods of time; including the ability to work at heights up to 15 feet.
-Ability to work independently to carry out assignments to completion.
-Ability to perform duties with a professional and cooperative work ethic.
-Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communications with co-workers, department management, and the general public.
PHYSICAL DEMAND REQUIREMENTS:
Physical Demand: Heavy
-100 pounds maximum lifting.
-Frequent (up to 2/3 of the work time) lifting, carrying up to 50 lbs.
-Good eyesight for production or safety of self and others.
-Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and climb for extended periods of time.
-Physical demand requirements are in excess of medium work.
POSITION SUMMARY: individual to drive and/or operate pavement marking equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
-Lift, carry, load and unload construction items including pavement marking supplies, signs, etc.
-Prepare, clean and sweep work area.
-Operates and maintains striping equipment for the application of striping on roadways.
-Set up and remove construction signs and traffic control items at job site.
-Operates and maintains equipment, both hand operated and motorized designed to remove pavement markings from roadway surfaces.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Operate company trucks to transport materials and equipment to job site.
-Clean grinders and paint machines.
-Install, remove and reset delineators, signs, posts and supports.
-Shop work which may include general maintenance and repair of equipment.
-Perform other work related duties as assigned.
-Travel from work site to work site.
-Other duties as assigned.
