Summary
The purpose of this position is to assist Cemetery maintenance crew with day-to-day duties of operating the City of Lubbock Cemetery.
Essential Functions
  • Drive light trucks to haul supplies and materials such as dirt and caliche.
  • Operate mowers and other machines of comparable size and complexity.
  • Maintain and service equipment, machines and trucks.
  • Assist with various other activities including mowing and edging grass, maintaining sprinkler systems, and removing litter and debris.
  • Assist in the preparation for funerals.

Qualifications
Completion of the tenth grade with an additional six months to one year of experience in operation and maintenance of light motorized equipment; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following
Physical Exam Required
Driver's License preferred but not required
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
  • Operation and maintenance of motorized equipment typically used in construction or maintenance activities.
Ability to:
  • Follow oral and written instructions;
  • Perform maintenance on light equipment;
  • Work cooperatively with others;
  • Communicate effectively with others.
Physical Requirements:
  • Occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds;
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds;
  • Frequently stand and walk during a shift;
  • Frequently climb ladders and inclined surfaces;
  • Continuously bend and kneel;
  • Push and pull objects;
  • Continuously flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially flex at the knees;
  • Continuously rotate trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing;
  • Continuously reach arms above, at or below shoulder height;
  • Coordinate eye, hand and foot movement to operate vehicles.

Part-time employees who have at least six (6) months continuous employment may be paid for all holidays except the Veterans Day floating holiday. Part-time employees are not eligible for the Veteran's Day floating holiday because City offices are not closed on that day. The number of hours granted these employees as holiday pay is based on the average number of hours normally worked in a day.
The City designates the eleven (11) following dates as holidays to be observed with pay:

Memorial Day - Last Monday in May
Independence Day - July 4
Labor Day - First Monday of September
Veterans Day - November 11 (Floating Holiday)
