Description

The Part-Time Staff Counselor provides short-term mental health counseling, crisis assessment, referrals, consultation, and clinical documentation for Central College students. Working under the direction of the Lead Counselor, this position helps ensure students have timely access to quality mental health services while maintaining accurate clinical records and collaborating with campus partners to support student well-being.  

Clinical Counseling

Provide short-term individual counseling for students experiencing personal, emotional, behavioral, or psychological concerns.

Conduct intake assessments and develop appropriate treatment plans.

Assess and respond to students experiencing mental health crises, consulting with the Lead Counselor as appropriate.

Make referrals to community providers or higher levels of care when clinically indicated.

Maintain professional and ethical standards consistent with applicable licensing requirements and the American Counseling Association.

Clinical Documentation

Maintain timely, accurate, and confidential clinical records in accordance with professional standards and applicable state and federal regulations.

Complete required documentation, case notes, treatment plans, referrals, and other clinical records.

Consultation & Collaboration

Consult with faculty, staff, and Student Development colleagues while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.

Collaborate regularly with the Lead Counselor regarding student care, crisis response, and referral planning.

Participate in Counseling Center meetings and case consultation.

Other Responsibilities

Participate in required trainings and professional development.

Assist with Counseling Center operations as assigned.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a closely related field.

Licensed or license-eligible in the State of Iowa.

Experience providing individual counseling.

Strong clinical assessment, documentation, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience counseling college-age students or young adults.

Experience with crisis intervention.

Experience using electronic health records.
