Job description

Description
Summary of Position:
The Machine Operator II operates, leads and maintains one complex machine and/or different types of packaging machines including, Scales, Bagger/Filler, Indexer, Capper, Labeler, Case Packer/Maker, Sealers, Palletizers and/or a production line and ensures it is running efficiently and meeting all quality and production KPIs with minimum supervision. The person in this position also tracks performance data and communicates exceptions.
Functions of the Position:
  • Sets up machine (loading, dies, films, settings), conducts mechanical changeovers and monitors machine to make sure it is running efficiently. Troubleshoots lines, reports any issues to team lead or supervisor or manager and participates in line repairs and eliminates downtime repeats. Conducts weekly/bi-weekly machine (PM's) preventative maintenance on machine(s). Active participant in continuous improvement of the production line and/or equipment and communicating needs to the area supervisor/manager.
  • Monitors and assists with equipment upstream/downstream to ensure continuous operation.
  • Follows work order, quality control and sanitation procedures concerning weights, packs, descriptions, dates, UPC'S, cleanup and changeovers. Completes quality and line check documentation in a timely manner.
  • Directs, instructs, and trains machine line personnel in specific job duties.
  • Performs pre-operational, quality control and material waste checks as well as other necessary forms needed for production. Also inspects and verifies teammates work.
  • Maintains and exceeds production, quality, and safety standards.
  • Loads product into hopper, packs, stacks, and other tasks needed at the line.
  • Cleans machine properly after production runs or changeovers. Maintains a clean, audit ready and organized, and safe work area.

Requirements
Qualifications:
Education, Experience, and Knowledge:
  • Experience as a machine operator.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Level I power equipment license (JBSS), preferred.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Capable of following verbal and written directions.

  • Basic problem recognition and resolution on the line being operated.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and lead teams on the production floor.

  • Mechanical, electrical, and analytical abilities including experience using standard tools for machine troubleshooting.

  • Basic computer literacy (to understand QAD and scanners).

  • Capable of managing multiple priorities.

  • Good communication skills and the ability to follow directions.

  • Ability to speak, write and read English.

  • Basic math skills.

  • Good manual dexterity, vision, and mobility.

  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
