Job description

As an IT System and Security Administrator I, you'll help ensure Mercantile Bank's technology remains reliable, secure, and ready to support our mission and community impact.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Information Security to ensure best practices are followed within our M365 environment.
  • Implement security measures within M365, leveraging tools like Microsoft Defender; manage security policies within Microsoft Defender for servers to align with security requirements and compliance standards.
  • Manage eDiscovery processes using Microsoft Purview, conducting legal holds, searches and data exports to support compliance, litigation and regulatory investigations across the organization
  • Manage Windows Server services (AD, GPO, DNS/DHCP, permissions, backup/restore)
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for System Administrator and the IT Help Desk

A Look into Your Day

Your day typically starts by reviewing overnight alerts, security dashboards, and patch/vulnerability queues to confirm systems are stable and risks are addressed. You'll coordinate change windows, validate backups, and document outcomes for audit-ready traceability. Throughout the day, you'll shift between project work-moving an initiative from design to rollout-and high-priority escalations that require careful troubleshooting and clear communication.

You'll spend focused time in the Microsoft ecosystem (Entra ID and Defender) checking identity signals, access governance tasks, and email security posture, then collaborate with Information Security to align remediation steps with policy. Expect regular touchpoints with IT leadership and vendors to keep deliverables on track. You'll also coach teammates, helping build shared capability so the organization can sustain secure, dependable operations that make a difference for customers and the communities we serve.

The IT team partners with department leaders and employees to ensure that systems run smoothly and securely. Our new IT System and Security Administrator will speak up when something doesn't seem right and will partner with other IT team members to find the best solution for all parties involved.

Requirements:

  • 3–5 years related experience; Bachelor's degree
  • Extensive knowledge of M365 administration, security tools, and Entra.
  • Knowledge of Windows server operating systems (Active Directory, Group Policies, etc.), VMWare, backup systems, storage area network, server hardware, basic Linux, and Cisco networking devices (routers/switches).
  • Experience with VMware virtualization platforms.
  • Organization and Attention to Detail: Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects with precision.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical issues.
  • Task Prioritization & Delegation: Effectively prioritize workload and delegate tasks when appropriate.
