An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Operations Research Analyst to join a high-performing consulting and analytics team supporting complex defence and national security programmes.


This role offers the opportunity to work on mission-critical projects that directly influence strategic planning, enterprise decision-making and operational readiness. You'll apply advanced modelling, simulation and analytical techniques to solve some of the most challenging problems facing large-scale government and defence organisations.

The Opportunity


As an Operations Research Analyst, you will lead analytical initiatives focused on optimisation, simulation, risk analysis and enterprise planning. You'll work closely with senior stakeholders, helping them make informed decisions through advanced modelling techniques and data-driven recommendations.

You'll be involved in large-scale strategic initiatives, including scenario modelling, resilience planning, performance measurement, operational analysis and decision support.

Key Responsibilities


Advanced Modelling & Simulation

  • Design, develop and implement modelling and simulation solutions.
  • Support strategic planning initiatives through scenario analysis and forecasting.
  • Develop analytical models to improve operational effectiveness and resource allocation.
  • Support simulation and decision-support activities for large-scale planning exercises.


Risk & Optimisation Analysis

  • Conduct optimisation studies and risk assessments.
  • Analyse complex operational challenges and recommend practical solutions.
  • Develop sensitivity analyses and performance measurement frameworks.
  • Evaluate alternative courses of action using quantitative methodologies.


Data Analytics & Decision Support

  • Perform advanced statistical analysis and operations research studies.
  • Transform large, complex datasets into actionable business insights.
  • Create dashboards, reports and visualisations for senior leadership.
  • Support strategic decision-making through evidence-based recommendations.


Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and senior decision-makers.
  • Translate complex analytical findings into clear, understandable insights.
  • Present recommendations to leadership and programme stakeholders.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in operations research and analytics methodologies.


About You


You are an experienced analytical professional with a strong background in operations research, modelling and advanced quantitative analysis.


Essential Experience


  • Active and maintained Secret Security Clearance.
  • Master's degree in Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Economics or a related quantitative discipline.
  • 8+ years' experience within operations research, modelling, simulation or advanced analytics.
  • Experience developing optimisation models and simulation-based solutions.
  • Strong programming skills using Python, R, SAS or similar analytical tools.
  • Experience working with large and complex datasets.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.


Desirable Experience


  • PhD in Operations Research or a related field.
  • Experience supporting defence, government or national security programmes.
  • Experience with cloud-based data environments and enterprise analytics platforms.
  • Knowledge of performance measurement frameworks and risk assessment methodologies.
  • Experience with Tableau, Power BI or similar visualisation tools.
  • Understanding of AI, machine learning and predictive analytics applications.
  • Familiarity with geospatial analytics and infrastructure planning.
  • Experience leading complex analytical projects.
  • Project Management certification (PMP or equivalent).
