Schedule: Sun-Thurs 22:00-06:30 (Overnight Shift)

As a Dock Lead Hand you will work to ensure service to customers is met, that costs to the company meet goals through the scheduling of dock staff, proper loading and unloading techniques, planning vehicles, and managing claims.ย 

How You'll Help:ย 

  • Operate equipment in keeping with legislation, policies and procedures, ensuring safety and efficiency in order to minimize the risk of injury, property damage, or loss of life.ย 
  • Load and unload cargoย 
  • Promptly report all incidents or accidents to supervisorย 
  • Ensure proper use of protective gear and safe operation of machinery.ย 
  • Report continuing performance and attendance issues to supervisorย 
  • Answer questions and coach team members on all dock area processed or equipment operation.ย 
  • Maintain records and documents as requiredย 
  • Assist in training workers on equipment operation and company safety policies and procedures.ย 
  • Effectively communicate issues to supervision, management and other leads/employeesย 
  • Assist whenever necessary and other duties that may be assigned.ย 
  • Provides basic leadership and guidance to dock workers to ensure safe and efficient handling of cargo.ย 
  • Relays information from the Operations Manager to Dock Workers and keeps the Operations Manager updated with dockside operations.ย 

Your Skills and Experience:ย 

  • Minimum of secondary education, with preference of post-secondary education (general stream), or a combination of education and experience.ย 
  • Forklift certifiedย 
  • Trained in the Transportation of Dangerous Goodsย 
  • WHMIS certifiedย 
  • Previous Transportation or operational experience is preferred, various roles within transportation would be beneficialย ย 
  • Communication skills - advancedย 
  • Computer skills - accuracy, MS products, AS400, web-based programsย 
  • Demonstrated customer relationship skillsย 
  • Strong conflict resolution skillsย 
  • Able to work deadlines in a high transactional environmentย 
  • Ability to champion business needs in a collaborative manner to colleaguesย 
  • Results focusedย 
  • English, other languages an assetย 
  • Able to work with little supervisionย
