Job Description
Norton Lifetime Learning is hiring a Publishing Operations Assistant. You'll join a rapidly growing publishing group dedicated to producing books and digital products that empower adult learners to build skills, advance their careers, and pursue interests beyond traditional degree programs.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and deeply curious about publishing as a business. You'll work closely with the Director of Lifetime Learning, who also serves as Chief Product Officer, on critical publishing processes, including list planning, metadata management, and interdepartmental coordination. The role also provides research and administrative support across both the Lifetime Learning and Product teams. You should be able to move comfortably between highly accurate detail work and an appreciation of the big picture, and be excited about helping a growing list operate smoothly. The Publishing Operations Assistant will report to the Director of Lifetime Learning / Chief Product Officer.
Essential Job Responsibilities Include:
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the Lifetime Learning publishing process, from acquisition through launch and ongoing lifecycle.
  • Support the Director of Lifetime Learning in list planning, including tracking titles in development, key dates, the status of products, and publication schedules.
  • Maintain title metadata for all Lifetime Learning books and digital products across internal systems and external retail and distribution partners.
  • Coordinate information and improve processes across departments, including but not limited to metadata, sales, marketing, production, publicity, editorial, subsidiary rights, IT, and business departments.
  • Partner with the Editorial, Marketing, Product, and Production teams to ensure metadata, copy, and product information remain aligned across the catalog, marketing channels, and lifecycle campaigns.
  • Conduct research and analysis to support list planning decisions, competitive positioning, and process improvements, including data analysis on internal product usage and engagement, as well as market research to inform product strategy.
  • Provide administrative support to the Chief Product Officer, including scheduling, meeting coordination, and processing of invoices, contracts, and expense reports.
  • Serve as a liaison with the Business department and Accounts Payable to ensure timely processing of payments, vendor onboarding, and resolution of operational questions.

Please note- this job description is not designed to cover all activities required of the employee.

Required Qualifications:
  • Extreme attention to detail and a sharp proofreading eye.
  • Ability to work with colleagues across multiple departments in a fully remote environment.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to balance competing priorities and meet strict deadlines.
  • Proactive problem solving.
  • Genuine interest in continuing education, mental health, and psychotherapy.
  • Self-directed, organized, and responsive; equally comfortable working independently and collaborating across teams.
  • Expertise in Excel and Microsoft Office.
  • Basic familiarity with databases.
  • Prompt and transparent communication.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Employment eligibility to work with W.W. Norton & Company in the US is required.
  • Must able to work full Eastern Time zone business hours.
