We are the world's largest patent pool administrator. We aggregate patents around key innovations and offer licensing solutions that give companies streamlined access to standardized technologies. The Compliance Analyst Intern will join Via LA's Global Compliance team and support the licensee audit process. This is a hands-on internship that offers meaningful exposure to real-world compliance operations, intellectual property licensing, and financial analysis. The intern will work closely with experienced compliance professionals and gain practical skills in audit support, data analysis, and licensee management.

This hybrid role reports to the Director of Global Compliance and is based at Via LA's headquarters in San Francisco, California. The intern is required to work on-site at least three days per week.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct internal and external market analysis and financial background research on licensees in support of compliance efforts
  • Assist in the review of new accounts, help identify past practices, and verify initial reporting by licensees
  • Support the monitoring and follow-up of email notices to licensees
  • Help investigate non-reporting and non-paying licensees and assist in initiating the resolution process
  • Provide support throughout the audit lifecycle, from audit announcement through completion, under the guidance of senior compliance staff
  • Assist in analyzing quarterly reports submitted by licensees under their license agreements and flag discrepancies or notable changes in sales trends
  • Support the identification of companies potentially infringing patents licensed through Via LA's programs and help transition leads to the appropriate regional licensing representative
  • Assist with quarterly segment reporting
  • Help create and maintain compliance records in Salesforce

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in Business, Economics, Accounting, or a related field
  • Effective analytical and critical thinking skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with team members and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook

Preferred:

  • Coursework or academic exposure to accounting, auditing, finance, or intellectual property
  • Familiarity with databases, record repository applications, or CRM tools such as Salesforce
  • Interest in technology licensing, intellectual property, or compliance
  • Fluency or proficiency in Mandarin is a strong plus

The San Francisco/Bay Area base hourly range for this internship position is $33-38/hr and can vary if outside of this location. Our hourly ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
