What is online solar sales?

Online solar sales involve selling solar energy products, such as solar panels and installation services, through digital platforms instead of traditional in-person methods. Professionals in this field educate potential customers, provide quotes, and close sales using tools like virtual consultations, chat, email, and online presentations. This approach allows for broader reach, more flexible customer interactions, and often a streamlined sales process. Online solar sales representatives need strong communication skills and a solid understanding of solar technology to effectively guide customers through the buying process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an online solar sales specialist?

To thrive as an Online Solar Sales Specialist, you need a strong understanding of solar energy solutions, sales techniques, and typically a background in sales or renewable energy. Familiarity with CRM platforms, virtual meeting tools, and solar design software is commonly required. Excellent communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills help distinguish top performers in this field. These competencies are crucial to effectively educate customers, build trust, and close sales in a competitive online environment.

What are some typical challenges faced in online solar sales, and how can professionals overcome them?

A common challenge in online solar sales is building trust and effectively communicating the value of solar solutions without in-person meetings. To overcome this, sales professionals often leverage virtual consultation tools, clear digital presentations, and personalized follow-ups to address customer concerns. Additionally, staying informed about evolving solar products and financing options helps in providing accurate, compelling information. Collaboration with technical teams and customer support is also key to ensuring a smooth transition from sale to installation, enhancing customer confidence and satisfaction.

The main difference lies in the work environment and customer interaction method, with online roles focusing on remote digital engagement and in-person roles involving face-to-face meetings.

Can you sell online solar sales remotely?

Online solar sales representatives can often sell remotely, using digital communication tools such as video calls, email, and online quoting platforms. Success in remote sales typically requires strong communication skills, product knowledge, and familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) software. Many companies support remote work for solar sales roles, especially with the increasing use of virtual consultations and online marketing strategies.

How much money can you make from selling solar?

Online solar sales representatives typically earn commissions based on the value of the systems they sell, with earnings often ranging from $20,000 to over $100,000 annually depending on experience, sales skills, and the size of deals closed. Successful salespeople who develop strong customer relationships and understand solar technology can increase their income potential significantly.

Is remote online solar sales a good job?

Online solar sales jobs that are remote typically involve selling solar energy systems through virtual communication, requiring strong sales skills and knowledge of solar products. These roles often offer flexible schedules and commission-based pay, but success depends on individual performance and market demand.

Is selling online solar panels a good career?

Online solar sales is a growing field that offers opportunities for those with sales skills and knowledge of renewable energy. Success often depends on understanding solar technology, customer needs, and digital marketing strategies. It can provide a flexible schedule and commission-based income, but requires ongoing learning and industry awareness.

Company Description

The Solar Scouts® is a residential solar and energy storage company built around performance, accountability, and long-term customer outcomes.

Unlike many solar companies, we operate with a fully integrated in-house model — marketing, sales, engineering, permitting, installation, and post-install support are all handled internally. That means faster installs, higher realization rates, and fewer broken promises to homeowners.

Our sales organization is structured around clear KPIs, transparent scoreboards, and tiered compensation tied to real performance. We don’t cap earnings, we don’t play games with commissions, and we don’t rely on pressure tactics. We train our team to sell consultatively, set proper expectations, and close deals that actually install.

The Solar Scouts® is built for disciplined, coachable professionals who want their income tied directly to results — not tenure, politics, or luck.
