This is a Part-Time Faculty Pool for available assignments during the academic year. Applications are considered throughout the academic year and reviewed based on departmental needs. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include working days, evenings and/or weekends.
May require travel to our main campus in Alvin and/or to various offsite locations, including local high schools in Alvin, Danbury, Manvel and Pearland and to Texas Department of Criminal Justice facilities in Richmond, Rosharon or Lake Jackson. Fingerprinting is a requirement for the local ISD's per Texas Education Agency. Alvin College will reimburse the estimated cost of $50, if applicable.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
We are seeking an experienced and innovative Networking Instructor to educate and train the next generation of IT professionals. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in modern networking technologies, including cloud networking, software-defined networking (SDN), and cybersecurity integration. A commitment to hands-on learning, student success, and staying current with industry advancements is essential.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
  • Deliver engaging instruction in networking fundamentals, infrastructure, and emerging technologies
  • Develop and update course materials to reflect current industry standards (e.g., Cisco, CompTIA, AWS).
  • Teach hands-on labs covering routing, switching, network security, and virtualization.
  • Mentor students in academic and career development, including certification pathways.
  • Assess student performance through practical labs, simulations, and exams.
  • Maintain and configure networking lab equipment (e.g., Cisco routers, firewalls, virtual environments).
  • Collaborate on curriculum development and program accreditation.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and student recruitment initiatives.
  • Stay current with networking trends (e.g., 5G, IoT, Zero Trust, cloud networking).
  • Utilize Learning Management Systems (LMS) for hybrid or online instruction
  • Instructs and supervise a diverse population of students in the classroom at various times and locations
  • Possesses a commitment to student engagement, student success, and instructional excellence
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills, both written and oral
  • Prepares and utilizes a course syllabus and assessments for each course using guidelines established by the institution
  • Maintains current knowledge of effective teaching methodologies and utilizes a variety of instructional delivery methods, classroom media, and educational resources
  • Assists in the recruitment and retention of students
  • Advises students in academic matters or refers students to appropriate resources
  • Assesses students' performance through a range of measurement activities and keeps them informed of their progress in a timely manner

  • Utilizes technology to facilitate learning and to access data, maintain records, generate reports, and communicate with others
  • Assists in the development, distribution, and collection of assessments for courses and program objectives

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The incumbent typically works in a classroom environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of a classroom. Incumbent may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the work day. Classroom and lab settings with hands-on equipment. Hybrid/remote teaching options (if applicable).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to twenty (20) pounds and configure lab hardware.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree or higher in Networking, Computer Science, IT, or related field OR equivalent industry certifications
  • Three (3) years of hands-on experience in networking roles such as:
    • Network Administration/Engineering
    • Routing & Switching (Cisco, Juniper)
    • Cloud Networking (AWS, Azure)
    • Network Security (Firewalls, IDS/IPS)

  • Networking Protocols: TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, VPNs, IPv6
