Job description

POSITION TITLE: Commercial Insurance Marketing Specialist
STATUS: Exempt
COMPENSATION RANGE: $57,000-85,000 Annually
REPORTS TO: Brokerage Program Director
The Commercial Insurance Marketing Specialist supports company-wide sales efforts by processing brokerage applications, securing accurate and timely quotes, and delivering responsive, high-quality service to the Virginia Farm Bureau (VAFB) agency force and brokerage partners. This role serves as a key liaison to the captive VAFB Agency network and requires regular interaction with internal and external stakeholders.
The Insurance Agency Services (IAS) Department exists to empower VAFB agents by providing access to a broad network of insurance partners. This enables agents to offer alternative quotes and coverage options not available through VAFB, supporting client retention and membership growth. In this role, the Commercial Insurance Marketing Specialist plays a critical part in fulfilling that mission by facilitating access to these markets and delivering coverage solutions that help agents retain and grow their client base.
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong customer service skills, a positive attitude, and comfort working in a technology-driven environment.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Support sales efforts by preparing complete new business and renewal submissions and obtaining quotes in accordance with agency marketing procedures, with a focus on non-admitted and Excess & Surplus (E&S) business.
  • Conduct annual reviews and analyze risk exposures on renewal policies to ensure appropriate coverage based on client information.
  • Maintain accurate client files and documentation, including policies, endorsements, invoices, binders, certificates of insurance, and activity records, in line with agency standards and timelines.
  • Manage renewal expiration lists, binders, audits, and aged receivables in accordance with agency guidelines.
  • Respond promptly to client inquiries, emails, mail, and carrier requests.
  • Review all processed items for accuracy and completeness; prepare billing in accordance with agency credit and collections policies.
  • Maintain current knowledge of underwriting guidelines, carrier requirements, and industry trends through ongoing education and professional development.
  • Participate in meetings, agency visits, trade shows, and other company or industry events as required.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years of commercial insurance experience preferred
  • Experience working with multiple insurance carriers, MGAs, and MGUs
  • Ability to effectively communicate with insureds in an agency or brokerage environment
  • Proficiency in agency management systems, quoting platforms, and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Strong technical aptitude, including familiarity with document management systems and carrier platforms
  • Active Virginia Property & Casualty License (required)
  • Commitment to maintaining licensing requirements through continuing education
