About Genesee Community College:
Founded in 1966 as part of the prestigious State University of New York (SUNY), Genesee Community College serves a 2500 square mile region in the counties of Genesee, Livingston, Orleans and Wyoming. Job Description
GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
This librarian will work on special projects in coordination with library staff. This librarian may cover regular reference desk shifts as determined by the Reference Services Librarian.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides assistance to faculty librarians with special projects involving student engagement and digital services initiatives such as website updates and digital literacy assistance, collection development, library marketing/outreach, displays, and archives.
  • Provides reference assistance as needed to library patrons including students, faculty, staff and community members utilizing various modalities such as in-person, live chat, email, telephone and zoom.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
EDUCATION:
Minimum of a Master's Degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited program required (will consider applicants graduating within a 6 month timeframe of hire).
EXPERIENCE:
Experience in an academic library preferred.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Excellent communication and public service skills; demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff and library patrons.
  • Demonstrated skill with use of current library and educational technologies, and experience with software and hardware used in academic libraries.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity and work with diverse students, faculty, staff and community clientele.

Additional Information:
RELATIONSHIPS:
This position is supervised by the Reference Services Librarian. Takes direction from full time Librarians.
SALARY AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a part-time position at 19.5 hours weekly and is compensated at a rate of $21.29 per hour. Schedule may include evening and weekend hours.
