Position: Library Teaching Assistant (Posting Number 2627-3862)

Location: Willink Middle School

Start Date: August 31, 2026

Requirements: Must have NYS Certification as a Teaching Assistant - Level I, Level II or Level III or have NYS certification as a teacher

We strongly welcome candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Library experience preferred

  • A willingness to learn and grow

  • Physical stamina to lift and bend

  • Knowledge of Dewey Decimal System

  • A love of reading and commitment to information literacy

  • Exemplify the WCSD vision, Core Beliefs, and Essential Skills

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team

  • Facility with computers; proficiency with Google Workspace for Education preferred

  • A friendly, flexible disposition and desire to create a safe, welcoming environment for all students

  • Adherence to the American Library Association ethical standards around intellectual freedom and confidentiality

Responsibilities:

  • Check books in and out

  • Help students locate library materials

  • Maintain accurate attendance records

  • Fill and generate interlibrary loan requests

  • Collect and report data on resource use

  • Generate, deliver, and follow up on overdue notices

  • Shelve books using Dewey Decimal classification

  • Answer the phone and direct library inquiries

  • Process new books and repair damaged books

  • Move around the library to actively supervise students.

  • Check in book and supply orders and assist in generating new orders

  • Assist in the design and execution of physical and digital library displays and promotions

  • Assist students in navigating the library catalog, databases, Ebook collection, and multimedia collection

Salary: As per current Educational Support Association Agreement (ESA) as well as education and experience
