Job Summary: The Multimedia Designer position is part of the Creative Services team responsible for the creation amp; design of materials that convey the Library's brand identity and support the Library’s marketing, fundraising and media plans.
The Designer produces engaging visual content across digital platforms. This role blends graphic design, digital illustration, motion graphics, and entry-level photo/video production. The Designer has strong visual storytelling skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to translate concepts into compelling, brand-aligned creative assets.
Location: CLP-Main, Pittsburgh, PA
Hiring Supervisor: Mike Cerce-Manager-Creative Services
Work Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Hourly: $22.75/hour
Unit: This position is represented by the United Steel Workers union.

Essential Functions:
  • Design assets for social media, digital signage, websites, email campaigns, digital ads, landing pages, and presentations;
  • Create custom illustrations, icons, 2D (and basic 3D, if applicable) motion graphics and animations for social media, ads, explainers, and presentations;
  • Capture and edit high-quality photo and video content;
  • Adhere to the parameters of the CLP brand in all promotions and explore creative solutions that can push the boundaries to keep the CLP brand fresh without compromising its integrity;
  • Select imagery, color palettes, iconography, and typefaces to ensure cohesive, on-brand communication;
  • Manage and organize creative assets (graphics, photos, video, illustrations);
  • Coordinate with external vendors (printers, freelancers, videographers) when required;
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and budget considerations;
  • Ensure files are optimized for different devices and platforms;
  • Stay current with design, animation, and multimedia trends and explore new tools, techniques, and creative approaches;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Competencies and Qualifications:
  • High Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, Premiere Pro) and well versed in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint);
  • Understanding of typography, color theory, layout, and composition;
  • Experience with photography and video equipment is a plus;
  • Strong visual storytelling ability;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Strong time management and organizational skills;

Education and Experience:
  • Associate's degree in Graphic Arts/Design, Visual Communications or a related field;
  • Minimum of one to three years of related experience;
  • Or equivalent technical training, education, and/or experience;
  • Portfolio demonstrating strong work including campaigns, motion graphics and video.
Physical and Environmental Conditions:
  • Must be able to work full-time hours and additional or extended hours as needed.
  • Prolonged periods at a work station using computers or other devices.
Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts, which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, libraries or meeting rooms, e.g., use of safe workplace practices with office equipment, and/or avoidance of trips and falls. Also may include travel to other areas, spaces and locations which could present different hazards and risks, such as stairs, stages, sloping or uneven ground, etc.
