Job Description
It is an exciting time at Vanderbilt as the University officially welcomed C. Cybele Raver as its new Provost and Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs on July 1, 2021. Under the leadership of Provost Raver, the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and Professional Education is leading bold new initiatives and strengthening existing programs. This role reports directly to the Digital Media Manager who reports to the Director of Digital Strategy in OLI.
The Digital Media Designer plays a key part in shaping how the Office of Learning Innovation (OLI) looks and communicates across web, print, and screen. Working alongside a team of production specialists, this role produces graphic, web, and motion design assets that support OLI marketing, recruitment, and program communications. The work spans landing pages and program sites, social and campaign collateral, motion graphics, and short-form video.
The Digital Media Designer provides design, motion, and production support across OLI's marketing and program communications. They are an integral member of the digital media team and bring a strong visual sensibility, working knowledge of web and brand fundamentals, and the technical skills to take projects from concept through delivery.
The Office of the Deputy Provost was established by Provost C. Cybele Raver in 2025 to strengthen Vanderbilt's ability to implement strategic academic initiatives and foster cross-institutional alignment. Led by Deputy Provost Tracey George, the office is charged with advancing enterprise-wide priorities across schools and colleges, leading important special initiatives, and supporting the Provost in executing Vanderbilt's academic vision.
Created by the University Provost, the Office of Learning Innovation is dedicated to advancing new, uniquely Vanderbilt ways of delivering education to meet the evolving needs of learners and maximize the university's global impact. The team focuses on supporting the growth of the university's digital and lifelong learning portfolio, providing expertise in educational technologies, and elevating Vanderbilt as a leader in cutting-edge learning innovation. OLI brings together expertise in learning technology, instructional design, and digital learning strategy to bring new programs from idea to market, and to continuously strengthen the university's existing portfolio of academic innovation initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities
Design and Visual Communication
  • Develop graphic, web, and brand assets that support OLI marketing and program communications
  • Design brand and marketing collateral including program one-pagers, social graphics, brochures, slide templates, and email assets
  • Build and maintain landing pages and campaign sites in OLI's content management environment
  • Apply and extend OLI's visual system in alignment with Vanderbilt brand standards
  • Produce templates and reusable component libraries that help the team move faster on recurring requests
  • Partner with marketing leads and program directors to translate program goals into clear visual communication
  • Maintain organized asset libraries for fonts, color, photography, and graphics

Motion Design and Video Editing
  • Create motion and short-form video that promotes OLI programs and initiatives
  • Design and animate motion graphics including bumpers, titles, lower thirds, animated explainers, and social media cuts
  • Plan and produce short-form video for course content, program promotion, recruitment, and recap content
  • Operate camera, lighting, and audio equipment
  • Edit promotional video content and adapt versions for different platforms, durations, and aspect ratios
  • Apply color, sound, and finishing techniques appropriate for video
  • Iterate based on feedback from team leads, marketing partners, and program stakeholders

Project Operations
  • Support project planning and day-to-day operations across design and video work
  • Maintain organized project files, naming conventions, and version control
  • Manage backups for design files, raw footage, and final deliverables on shared systems
  • Participate in project kickoffs and pre-production meetings to clarify scope and visual direction
  • Manage timelines for assigned deliverables and communicate progress to the Digital Media Manager
  • Adjust formats, file sizes, and exports as needed for different distribution channels

Tools, Equipment, and Vendor Coordination
  • Help recommend and evaluate design and motion software, plugins, and equipment
  • Maintain working knowledge of OLI design systems, fonts, photography, and brand assets

Best Practices and Faculty Support
  • Document and refine design, motion, and production workflows so they can be repeated by the team
  • Support workshops and trainings for faculty interested in marketing, design, and visual storytelling
  • Provide design and production support to faculty initiatives as needed

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, relevant military experience, and relevant skills is necessary.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education, relevant military experience, and relevant skills is necessary.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, with primary focus on Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and After Effects, is necessary.
  • Working knowledge of Figma or a comparable web and UI design tool is necessary.
  • Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and modern content management systems is necessary.
  • Experience producing motion graphics for marketing, brand, or campaign contexts is necessary.
  • Understanding of typography, layout, color, and brand systems is necessary.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing graphic design, web or digital design, and motion work is necessary.
  • Experience operating camera, lighting, and audio equipment for marketing video and interviews is necessary.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG) for web and digital assets is preferred.
  • Experience with Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or comparable video editing software is preferred.
