These skills are essential for developing effective media campaigns that reach target audiences and achieve business objectives.

What is media strategy?

Media strategy refers to the planning and execution of how, when, and where to deliver advertising messages to a target audience for maximum impact. It involves selecting the right media channels, such as TV, digital, radio, or print, and determining the optimal timing and frequency for ads. The goal is to reach the intended audience efficiently within budget, boost brand awareness, and drive desired actions. Media strategists use data and research to inform their decisions, ensuring campaigns align with business objectives and market trends.

Job description

We are Mindstream Media Group, a smart, nimble media agency built to deliver outsized results for our clients. Our story isn't about outspending larger agencies and holdcos -- it's about out-thinking and out-working competitors. Our core disciplines are media strategy, media planning, media investment, marketing science, analytics, and measurement. We thrive as bold strategic advisors to deliver strong and measurable business outcomes, and we live our core values for our clients (and for each other) every day: Accountability, Tenacity, Resourcefulness, Innovation, and Collaboration.

We are looking for a Media Strategy Director that leads from the front. You will guide your team to manage clients with accountability, dig to understand the deeper context, and deliver creative solutions that make sense. You will uncover clever audience insights, and will build smart strategies around the right motivations, journeys, and signals that our media plans can speak to with relevancy. The Media Strategy Director acts as a strategic plan architect, giving the broader team the blueprint for success to build the best possible campaign for our clients.

The ideal candidate knows how to serve as a link between media, creative, marketing science, and client teams, and can distill complex ideas into a straightforward approach.

Responsibilities:

  • Understand the context of each ask, plan, or pitch, and be able to translate this for your team
  • Create and write campaign briefs to align on goals, media objectives, audience considerations, creative considerations, plan parameters, timelines and milestones, and reasons to believe
  • Ability to build a thoughtful approach to audiences, their motivations, and journeys
  • Provide relevant insights to guide budget recommendations across media channels
  • Ensure alignments between media strategy and messaging/CTA/creative placements
  • Author the narrative of media plan presentations to communicate whats important: the overarching strategy and how it will achieve the business goals
  • Partner closely with the Marketing Science team to inform the design of tests, the framework for measurement and learning, to ensure reporting is set up to measure against north-star goals, and to co-author slides for reports or QBRs
  • Dig into relevant trends and provide internal POVs to consider that make our teams stronger and ahead of the curve
  • Provide clients with proactive content and POVs that are relevant to their business
  • Inspire awesome work

Requirements:

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in strategic planning, marketing strategy, media strategy or creative strategy
  • Strong understanding of media, marketing, the marketing and tech landscape, and AI
  • Previous agency experience strongly preferred
  • Concise writing skills
  • Pleasant client management demeanor
  • Ability to simplify and make the complex feel straightforward
  • Ability to lead collaboration across all teams (media + creative + marketing science + SME)
  • Word, PowerPoint, and Excel skills are required
  • New business/pitch experience is a plus
