The Adventure Ahead:
The Senior Accident & Health Underwriter is responsible for reviewing and analyzing underwriting data to ensure a profitable book of International Medical and Travel Insurance business. Acting within established underwriting guidelines, this role evaluates new and renewal accounts, processes underwriting activities, and monitors portfolio performance.
In addition to core underwriting responsibilities, this position develops and executes strategic underwriting and portfolio plans, across product development, distribution, fulfillment, and overall portfolio financial performance, working closely with senior leadership and cross-functional partners.
  • Build, manage, and maintain a profitable book of International Medical and Travel Insurance business
  • Review, analyze, evaluate, and monitor new and renewal underwriting submissions
  • Provide technical underwriting expertise and market intelligence to internal stakeholders
  • Foster and grow strong relationships with partners, brokers, and producers
  • Lead product development and refinement initiatives, including plan design and rating methodologies
  • Participate in P&L management, portfolio performance analysis, and process efficiency initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with applicable domestic and international insurance laws and regulations
  • Document departmental activities and develop underwriting guidelines and control processes and Partner with Sales, Product, Operations, Compliance, and Actuarial teams to enhance or modify existing products and programs
  • Review and evaluate complex opportunities or programs to determine risk acceptability and coverage levels; collaborate with Actuarial for approvals as needed
  • Prepare and update monthly underwriting reports by line of business; Create ad hoc reports and analyses as required
  • Issue proposals for new business opportunities

Skills and Experience Needed:
  • Bachelors degree in a related field, or the equivalent education and /or experience
  • Collaborative team player with a proactive mindset
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently
  • Minimum of five years of experience in Accident & Health Insurance Underwriting preferred
  • Proven negotiation and interpersonal skills and experience, with a strong track record in growth of new business and retaining renewal business while delivering target financial results.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including interaction with senior management and external partners, along with presentation abilities to convey complex information clearly to engage decision-makers at all organizational levels
  • Excellent analytical skills; demonstrated financial acumen and high attention to detail and accuracy in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Advanced knowledge of industry changes, legal updates, and technical developments related to applicable area of the Company's business to proactively respond to changing business environment
  • Advanced proficiency and experience using Microsoft Office package (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word)
