Job description

Job summary:

To provide engineering and development support to ensure the most economical and feasible methods are utilized for each project. Responsible for collaborating with manufacturing, quality and engineering departments in developing appropriate quality and manufacturing practices and documentation to meet and exceed customer expectations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Consults with Process Engineer and Chief Manufacturing Engineer regarding part quality requirements.
  • Assists with work instructions, quality plans and appropriate training documents for manufacturing and quality departments.
  • May consult with customer’s technical personnel regarding current and upcoming projects or concepts.
  • Assists with preparation of accurate cost analysis of projects and forecasts accurate delivery times for quotation process.
  • Able to make decisions on new production quotes and expansion of product lines for customers.
  • Consult with Chief Manufacturing Engineer to improve throughput, profit margins, and efficiency in manufacturing.
  • Works with manufacturing, quality, and engineering to reduce non-conforming material.
  • Provide engineering support and input to departments within company.
  • Assists manufacturing department in development of processes for production.
  • Authority to cease or allow production on parts that do not meet specs.
  • Participate in targeting strategic processes and skills, and participate in implementing processes, procedures, and training to accomplish those skills.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Performs product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement, and improved efficiency, and makes recommendations.
  • May represent Manufacturing/Management Department on cross-function teams.
  • When requested, may work on special projects and various related assignments.
  • Performs other related duties and assignments as required.

The noise level in the work environment may range from moderate to loud.

Education, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelors’ of Engineering Degree from a four-year college or 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • The Manufacturing Engineer is expected to know customer and company requirements by reading, interpreting and understanding the necessary specifications and procedures.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Must have the ability to translate technical data into a format and language suitable for shop floor personnel.
  • Strong computer skills used to create elaborate work instructions (CAD, Microsoft Office)
  • Ability to provide feedback to drive behaviors of employees.
  • Able to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
