Job Summary:

The Associate Manufacturing Quality Engineer is responsible for investigating, managing analysis, coordinating, responding and reporting of customer returns via Return Material Authorizations (RMAs) and internal Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) along with any associated customer return documentation. Works with Quality Engineers and Manufacturing Engineers to execute corrective actions and preventive actions. Audits suppliers and works with suppliers on quality issues and NCRs. Coordinates the qualification of new equipment along with any special process qualifications. Assists the Quality Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers and Quality Department in programming inspection equipment. Provides support to Operations in developing in-process inspection methods for new products and ensuring consistent application of quality techniques. Supports new product/program activity such as Process FMEAs, Control Plans, Capability Studies, and Gage R&Rs as dictated by the customer. Monitors and reports customer quality ratings. Supports activities of the Senior Manufacturing Quality Engineers or Manufacturing Quality Engineers. Works with the Director of Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering Manager, Senior Manufacturing Quality Engineers or Manufacturing Quality Engineers on priorities and implementation of projects.

Functions:

  • Performs effective problem-solving techniques and root cause analysis on customer returns.
  • Tracks and promptly communicates to customers regarding returns.
  • Generate a monthly Return Material Authorization (RMA) and Non-Conformance Report (NCR) summary.
  • In conjunction with Manufacturing Engineers, executes Corrective Actions and Preventive Actions.
  • Generates Process FMEAs, Control Plans, Capability Studies, and Gage R&Rs when required.
  • Works with Manufacturing Engineers to execute special process validations.
  • Generate protocols and execute installation qualifications, operational qualifications and software validations.
  • Request and execute requirements associated with a process change request.
  • Programs and sets up a variety of inspection equipment.
  • Determines priorities with the Director of Manufacturing Systems and Technologies on inspection and quality improvement projects.
  • Stays informed concerning new inspection technology and equipment, and investigates their potential applications.  Recommends incorporation of new technology for company applications where feasible and practical
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Familiarity concerning mechanical principles, machining practices.
  • Familiarity concerning statistical process controls and measurements.
  • Familiarity of ISO9000, ISO13485 and AS9100 quality management systems and related requirements
  • Familiarity of MiniTab or other statistical software required.
  • Familiarity with sophisticated inspection equipment such as Coordinate Measurement Machine (CMM) and Vision Systems desirable.
  • Familiarity of Six Sigma and Lean practices desirable.
  • Drafting skills using Solidworks and AutoCAD desirable.
  • Capable of efficiently integrating existing methods with new innovations to economically solve production problems in a timely manner
  • Has initiative and able to work effectively with little direction and/or few guidelines
  • Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing at all levels within the organization as well as with external customers and suppliers
  • Organized, manages time effectively and able to prioritize competing tasks
  • Able to apply problem solving techniques to identify root cause and prevent reoccurrence
  • Working knowledge of computer systems and data processing, familiarity with complex ERP systems
  • One (1) years' experience in a support role in Quality or Manufacturing or similar role
