Design Manager – Mechanical Engineering (PE)

Location: Reno, NV (100% Onsite)
Travel: Occasional travel to Seattle, WA
Relocation Assistance: Up to $2,000 (vested after one year)

Lead Critical Healthcare Infrastructure Projects:

We're seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Manager to oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of complex healthcare facility design projects in Reno, Nevada. This role is ideal for a licensed Mechanical Engineer with experience leading multidisciplinary design teams on large capital projects, particularly central utility plants, boiler plants, hospitals, or healthcare facilities.

You'll work closely with project managers, architects, engineers, and consulting firms to ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and meet the highest standards for quality, safety, and functionality.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead mechanical design efforts from planning through final design delivery.
  • Manage outside engineering and architectural firms to ensure quality, schedule, and budget objectives are achieved.
  • Coordinate with project stakeholders to establish project scope, priorities, and design objectives.
  • Oversee design reviews and ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.
  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, and design milestones.
  • Review drawings, specifications, contracts, and technical documentation.
  • Resolve design issues while balancing quality, constructability, and lifecycle cost.
  • Collaborate with project teams throughout the planning and design phases.
  • Support development of engineering standards, commissioning requirements, and sustainable design practices.
  • Provide technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License strongly preferred; licensed candidates will receive priority consideration.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing engineering or design projects.
  • Experience with boiler plant or central utility plant design/build projects.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical building systems and healthcare infrastructure.
  • Experience coordinating multiple engineering disciplines and outside consultants.
  • Ability to interpret construction documents, specifications, engineering standards, and applicable codes.
  • Excellent communication and project leadership skills.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Preferred

  • Healthcare or hospital facility design experience.
  • Experience supporting large capital improvement or institutional construction projects.
  • Familiarity with commissioning, life-cycle cost analysis, and sustainable design principles.
