Overview

American Residential Services (ARS) is seeking an experienced HR Compliance Specialist to serve as the primary liaison between Employee Services and field operations, ensuring compliance with pre-employment screening, workforce qualification, and driver compliance requirements across a multi-state organization.

This role is responsible for administering and overseeing employment screening programs, including criminal background checks, drug testing, motor vehicle record (MVR) reviews, employment verifications, and Department of Transportation (DOT) driver qualification compliance. The HR Compliance Specialist partners closely with HR leaders, recruiters, operational leaders, and third-party vendors to support hiring compliance, reduce organizational risk, and deliver a consistent candidate and employee experience.

The ideal candidate brings strong knowledge of employment screening regulations, compliance processes, and HR operations in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.


Responsibilities

  • Administer pre-employment screening programs, including background checks, drug testing, employment verifications, and motor vehicle record (MVR) reviews.
  • Review and adjudicate screening results in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Support FCRA adverse action processes and employment screening compliance.
  • Monitor DOT driver qualification requirements and maintain compliance documentation.
  • Partner with HR leaders, recruiters, field operations, and third-party vendors to resolve compliance issues and support hiring initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate records, generate compliance reports, and assist with audits and process improvements.
  • Provide guidance on employment screening and workforce compliance requirements.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • 5–7 years of experience in HR Operations, Employment Compliance, Background Screening, Workforce Compliance, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of FCRA, employment screening regulations, and adverse action requirements.
  • Experience with background screening, drug testing, and MVR programs.
  • Knowledge of DOT driver qualification requirements preferred.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and HR technology systems.
  • Experience with First Advantage or similar screening platforms preferred.
  • HR certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR) preferred.

Required

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 5–7 years of experience in Human Resources, HR Operations, Employment Compliance, Background Screening, Workforce Compliance, or a related field.
  • Experience administering employment screening programs in a high-volume, multi-location environment.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Working knowledge of the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), adverse action requirements, and employment screening compliance.
  • Experience supporting drug testing and motor vehicle record (MVR) programs.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills with the ability to collaborate across all levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and HR technology platforms.

Preferred

  • HR certification such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR.
  • Experience with First Advantage or similar background screening platforms.
