EDUCATIONAL EQUIVALENT Able to read, write, add and subtract whole numbers, understand and follow instructions. Use simple fixed gauges and other instruments not requiring interpretation.
MINIMUM TRAINING TIME 2 to 3 months
WORKING CONDITIONS Battery Manufacturing
HEALTH AND ACCIDENT HAZARDS May crush hand or foot, fingers or toes, handling tools and materials. Falls from ladder or scaffolding, resulting in a lost time injury.
DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION
General Duties
Assist Maintenance Men in the performance of a variety of duties. Obtain tools, materials and supplies. Assist in moving equipment, tearing down and reassembling machines and equipment, oil and grease motors, machines, power hand and lift trucks and other equipment as directed or follow prescribed methods. Perform ordinary painting of walls, partitions, inside and outside window frames and trim; replace burned out light bulbs and fluorescent tubes, wash windows, replace broken window panes and other similar types of simple maintenance work. Occasionally operate simple power tools such as drill press, hand power cutting shear, and other simple power tools.
Mental Requirements
Frequent visual attention while performing work. Only occasional mental attention since work is usually laid out.
Skill and Knowledge
Follow detailed instructions to assist Maintenance Men in various types of maintenance work. Some judgment required in carrying out instructions, handle tools, position work and in performance of simple operations.
Responsibilities
Equipment - Improper use of simple power or hand tools such as drill presses, pedestal grinders, wrenches, may result in some damage. Probably damage seldom over $25.00. Material - Carelessness in assisting Maintenance Men may result in some waste or damage to materials. Probable losses seldom over $25.00. Major responsibility rests with Maintenance Men. Safety - Improper or thoughtless handling of tools, or materials particularly when performing overhead work, may result in lost time injury to others. Work of Others - Responsible for own work.
Physical Demand
Sustained physical effort handling tools and materials, moving equipment. Sometimes work in difficult positions.
Working Conditions
Somewhat disagreeable working conditions. Work in all parts of plant, under varying conditions such as heat, cold, dirt, but not all continuous.
