Job description

Job Summary:
The Machine Shop Manager leads people and processes, overseeing the day-to-day activities of the Maker's Pride EZ PAK facility. This individual will direct team activities with the goal of manufacturing the best possible products on-time and on budget while maintaining a safe working environment, continuously improving processes, being an asset to internal Maker's Pride facilities, and developing employees in knowledge/competency resulting in a more effective team. Candidates must be flexible and able to respond positively to changes and challenges. They should be able to think outside the box to solve problems and willing to go the extra mile to ensure department goals are met. The ideal candidate will embrace the objectives and the culture of the company and can integrate them into daily decisions/actions consistently.
Schedule: Onsite Monday - Friday some weekends, 6 am - 2:30 pm
Job Duties:
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Lead the Machine Shop team, provide motivation, support, guidance, and constructive feedback to employees, developing and training them while building understanding of and alignment with company culture and goals
• Provide decisive leadership giving clear direction in everyday and pressure situations
• Handle time & vacation approval, hiring selections and decisions to discontinue employment.
• Provide equipment expertise and coaching to all customers
• Manufacture the best possible products on-time and on budget
• Schedule machines and staff for maximum productivity
• Coordinate all labor and materials in the machine shop
• Order and manage raw material inventories
• Identify and implement processes and procedures to improve efficiency and quality
• Make recommendations on capital expenditures to improve capacity and quality
• Monitor productivity, utilizing charts and soft knowledge to maintain maximum productivity
• Be an asset to machine shop clients to support all sites and deliver high quality parts delivered on-time and on budget
• Resource planning - provide accurate data on labor hours, capacity, and schedule
• Engineering Team - Rapid response for R&D and feedback regarding capabilities, costs, and print redlines
• Travel to sites as required to develop scope of work for new and or existing projects to include; field measurements and development of concept drawings
• Engage and work with suppliers to determine best in class equipment based on the need ,negotiate and acquire quotes for budgetary needs
• Manage and oversee project budget tracking
• Participate and follow Design Review protocols to include; scheduling meetings, keeping meeting notes, revise scope, drawings, etc. as needed , and completing each DR phase effectively
• Work cross-functionally to ensure projects meet the needs of all key stakeholders to include but not be limited to Quality, Food Safety, Planning, Operations, T&W, Sanitation, and Maintenance
• Management of purchase orders relative to the EZ PAK site
• Appropriately assign and oversee projects that are delegated to the EZ PAK facility
• Communicate effectively to key stakeholders related to progress of projects both verbally and in writing
• Coordinate and participate in Factory Acceptance Tests as required to validate and ensure equipment functionality and performance
• Travel to project sites as needed to ensure equipment builds are correct and installation efforts well supported
• Assist in the development of Maker's Pride best practices and standardization
• Assist in the development of the annual capital budget for EZ PAK
• Provide reporting of all projects currently in process within EZ PAK
• Enforce engineering specification compliance, with recurrent formal reviews
• Support the preferred suppliers' development with procurement.
Required Competencies & Knowledge:

• AutoCAD, Microsoft Suite of products to include Project, Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, and Visio
• Power BI
• Project Management Principles
• Machining equipment and processes; End Mills, Lathes, Saws, Laser Cutting, CNC, Welding, 3D Printing, Mild Steel and SS Fabrication
Skilled in:
• AutoCAD
• Blueprint reading, and ability to understand GD&T and offsets
• Use of gauges, calipers, dial indicators, and micrometers
• Project Management Principles
• Sanitary Design Practices
• Safety Best Practices
• Successfully analyzes and presents data to multiple levels of the organization
• Effective Time Management
• Effective presentation, writing, proposals, business plans, SOWs', Theory of Operation
• Personnel and performance management
Ability to:

• Communicate up, down, and across effectively both verbally and in writing
• Successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Ensure collaborative relationships with industry, trade, other associations, regulatory agencies and Hearthside staff
• Engage and collaborate with Maker's Pride staff and equipment suppliers to find the best in class solution

Proficiency in:
• MS Office Suite

Work Environment:
• Field work and travel up to 20%
• Frequent Work in an office setting and on shop floor
• Frequent production environment exposure which includes noise, dust, moving machinery, forklifts, and fluctuations in temperature
Physical Requirements:
• Sitting at a workstation
• Shop floor presence for extended periods of time
• Stand, walk, climb stairs on a frequent basis
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a frequent basis
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in Machine Shop settings preferred
• Experience in a manufacturing environment required preferably in a food environment
• 3 years or more of relevant business experience in a Machine Shop Manager role with knowledge of food industry a plus. Additional background in Project Management of projects in the range of $100K-$5MM
• Proven results project management, Engineering design, budget management, timeline adherence, driving results through continuous improvement.
• Experience negotiating, preparing and administering vendor agreements and contracts
