Job description

Janicki Industries is an innovative, family-owned aerospace company located at the foot of the Cascades. We focus on engineering and manufacturing complex projects for companies in the aerospace, defense, and space industries. We are looking for a Machine Shop Manager to join our growing team.
This position is located on-site in Hamilton, Washington State.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Machine Shop Manager will oversee daily production processes associated with machining metallic production parts and tooling - fixtures. The Machining Manager will support manufacturing methods and processes for horizontal head/head 5 axis milling machines, vertical 5 axis table/table mills, and 4 and 3 axis vertical machines. These machines will machine production and tooling parts made from aluminum, titanium, and many other exotic hard metals up 165" (4200mm) in length and 10" in thickness. The position requires considerable skill in workflow planning and the coordination of multiple projects to achieve maximum productivity. Must have a background in High Efficiency tool path methods, common fixture designs, and rapid changeover. An understanding of Overall Equipment Efficiency is a plus. Strong people management skills and ability to communicate across multiple organizational boundaries and disciplines are critical. Must be able to evaluate data and metrics. Machining Manager is responsible for management of up to 25 personnel on multiple shifts.
The incumbent shall maintain a positive attitude that leads by example and emphasizes goals and expectations utilizing a variety of management techniques such as positive reinforcement and constructive criticism.
The following essential job functions are performed as a Machine Shop Manager:
  • Direct and provide guidance developing high efficiency and stable tool path methods
  • Strategic planning, ability to schedule and focus on productivity
  • Provides direction for fixture designs and cutting tool libraries
  • Ability to direct and lead a team of employees
  • Interface and work with Project Teams to support scheduling requirements and priorities
  • Estimates production times, staffing requirements to provide information for management decisions
  • Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow. Ensures adequate resources are available to complete assigned tasks
  • Identifies areas for improvement among cell members and implements cross training accordingly to create a more capable and homogenous team
  • Ensures the processes and procedures are executed in accordance with project management guidelines
  • Works with Project Managers and Process Engineers to identify and mitigate risk in the production process
  • Performs on the job training, AS9100, Nadcap training and other training as required
  • Takes responsibility for maintaining tool inventory and availability within the cell and ensures accountability from individual employees
  • Ensures WO's and proper quantities of materials, components, and tools are available before a project begins
  • Prepares and provides reports for operations management as directed
  • Verifies previous cell's documentation is complete before moving forward
  • Ensures documentation of processes accomplished by work cell is complete, accurate, and timely including recording NCMR, part tagging and routing
  • Audits and reviews work packets with the techs before and during each activity
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Behavior: The incumbent must work well under pressure, meeting and completing multiple deadlines. The incumbent shall, at all times, demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Being at work on time and maintaining good attendance is a condition of employment and is an essential function of your job.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). Janicki will assist with gaining this access once employed. Special Access Program or other Government Access Requirements are mandatory for this position and requires candidate agreed to enter a Continuous Evaluation program.
QUALIFICATIONS
Due to our ITAR and EAR regulations, applicants must be a US Citizen or of Legal Permanent Resident Status as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b (a) (3).
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Must have 3-5 years specialized training after high school or equivalent on-the-job training particular to job description
  • Must have minimum 5 years related job experience
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Basic machining experience including cutter identification, feeds and speeds and maintenance.
  • Must be familiar with a variety of the fields' concepts, practices and procedures
  • Must be able to rely on extensive experience, problem-solving skills and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Must have good communication and teambuilding skills.
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office products, SAP or similar ERP systems.
  • Ability to obtain a government security clearance

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
  • Wage range for this role is between $40 - $60 an hour plus a discretionary bonus, 401(k) matching, vacation, and health benefits. Employees can also receive additional pay for off-shifts, off-site work, and access pay. The range provided is Janicki's estimate of the base compensation for this role. Actual amount offered will be based on job-related and non-discriminatory factors such as experience, location, education, training, skills, and abilities.
