Machine Shop Helper / Laborer

American Pump & Drilling is a steady-growing local business looking for a self-motivated individual who enjoys working hard to join our team. APD has physical locations in Ucon, Idaho; Idaho Falls, Idaho; and Afton, Wyoming, and specializes in delivering water. This position will be based out of Ucon, Idaho.


No previous machine shop experience is required, but applicants should be mechanically inclined, dependable, and eager to learn. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with their hands and wants to build a long-term career in the skilled trades.

Position Overview

The Machine Shop Helper / Laborer assists our machinists and pump technicians with a variety of shop duties while learning the skills needed to support the repair, rebuilding, and manufacturing of pump components. This position plays an important role in keeping the shop clean, organized, and operating efficiently while offering opportunities to cross-train into other departments as skills develop.


Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

  • Assist machinists and pump technicians with daily shop operations
  • Load, unload, clean, and organize pump components and materials
  • Disassemble and clean pumps, motors, and related equipment
  • Prepare parts for machining, assembly, and shipping
  • Safely operate forklifts, hoists, and other shop equipment (training provided)
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis
  • Follow all company safety procedures and wear required PPE
  • Cross-train in multiple areas of the company, including our Machine Shop, Motor Rewind Shop, and Pump Service Department, with opportunities to assist on field service projects as skills and business needs allow
