CNC Machine Shop Manager

Position: CNC Machine Shop Manager
Location: Minneapolis, MN
Salary Range: $80,000 - $120,000

Position Overview:
We are seeking a hands-on CNC Machine Shop Manager to lead daily operations, oversee machinists and programmers, maintain production efficiency, and uphold high quality and safety standards. This role requires strong CNC machining expertise, leadership ability, and a focus on continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage daily CNC machine shop operations, including staffing, scheduling, workflow coordination, and resource allocation.
  • Coach, train, and develop machinists and support staff to strengthen performance and technical capability.
  • Oversee CNC machining activities, including setup, tooling, programming review, troubleshooting, and process optimization.
  • Maintain a strong presence on the shop floor to support operators and resolve issues quickly.
  • Enforce quality standards and conduct in-process inspections to ensure compliance.
  • Collaborate with quality personnel to resolve nonconformances.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment aligned with OSHA and company standards.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Production, and Supply Chain teams to prioritize work orders and meet deadlines.
  • Monitor KPIs such as machine utilization, throughput, scrap rates, and labor efficiency.
  • Implement Lean, 5S, and other continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee preventive maintenance schedules and coordinate with external vendors for calibration and repairs.
  • Participate in evaluating and onboarding new CNC equipment, tooling, and technology.
  • Use ERP/MRP systems for scheduling, tracking, and reporting production activities.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of CNC machining experience, including hands-on setup, tooling, and multi-axis machining.
  • 3+ years of leadership or supervisory experience in a machine shop or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of G-code, machining practices, tooling, materials, and GD&T.
  • Experience reviewing or working with CNC programs such as Mastercam, GibbsCAM, or Fusion 360.
  • Ability to manage production schedules, allocate resources, and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with Lean, 5S, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Experience using ERP/MRP systems in a manufacturing environment.
