Job description

JW Hicks is looking for a capable, motivated Mechanical Assembly Manager/Machine Shop Manager to join our growing team in our Knox, IN location. This individual will be responsible for production of complete mechanical systems, spare parts, and component refurbishment through on site manufacturing and external procurement. Systems include fabrications, machined parts, castings, hydraulics components, and hardware used in valves in an industrial environment. Candidate should be familiar with machining operations and fabrication, be skilled in drawing interpretation, procurement administration, scheduling, and quality control in an ISO certified environment. An ideal candidate at JW Hicks is someone who enjoys the challenge of running a small “business within a business”, has a strong business acumen and an entrepreneurial spirit.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Supervise 5-6 skilled hourly employees
  • Coordinate internal and external activities to meet required deadlines
  • Acquire needed raw materials and components manufactured by subcontractors
  • Assemble various mechanical systems with manufactured/purchased subcomponents
  • Oversee manufacture of spare parts to support customer installed OEM equipment
  • Manage Quality System for all mechanical systems and individual components
  • Communicate frequently with the Engineering Department, Sales Department, and Technical Representatives
  • Responsible for department P&L

Required Qualifications:

  • 5 – 10 years’ minimum experience
  • 2 – 4-year degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology or similar formal training and equivalent work experience
  • Proven ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
  • Experience with machining operations and fabrication
  • Strong organizational, project management and time management skills
  • Proficient with MS Office products
  • Experience with Quality Control
  • Ability to use sound technical concepts for problem solving

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Machine shop management experience beneficial
  • Experience in an ISO certified environment
  • Hands on machine operations experience a plus
